Super User tcbass Posted August 22, 2015 Super User Posted August 22, 2015 Oddly enough, it's the buzzbait for me. I have never caught a bass on a buzzbait and I have been fishing them off and on for 25 years. Have you ever used a Cavitron? We've tried others but haven't had success as we did with the Cavitrons. We tried them at the same time and something about the Cavitron the fish love. Quote

One of these days it will pay off. Quote

I've got several in both shallow and deep versions. They've got one 10" smallmouth to their name between them all, and my sore wrist from fishing them so much with no luck. 1 Quote
thirtysixit Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Snag Proof Pro Series Tournament Frog is hot garbage. Casts terrible, lands upside down, doesn't right itself, and has no action. I was severely disappointed. All the other stuff I've fished from them is top quality but DON"T GET THIS FROG!!!!!!!!!! that is all.... Quote
Jaw1 Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I am a rapala fan. I catch fish with everything they produce that I'm interested in. Love the DT series, shadraps are my go to bait all year, the original floaters produce, but scatteraps are horrible just take up space in a box now. I've tried but there's only so much fishing time that you can realistically give a lure that doesn't preform for you. I also hate spinnerbaits , not that I haven't caught fish with them but squarebills are far more effective for me. Brushogs of any size are a zero for me. I melted all mine down and poured crawfish baits with them. Senkos get rave reviews but other than pond fishing they do not produce very well for me. I figure it's me because I've lost confidence in them. If I only had limited options and had to list what I would fish for the rest of my life the choices would be. Topwater: buzzbait ,crankbaits: all(excluding scatteraps)rapala plus strikeking squarebills, bladedbait:chatterbait, jerkbait: luckystrike, megabass, soft plastic: zoom big critter craw ,superflukes, roboworms for finesse. Now if I could stick to this idea of save alot of money but just like the rest of you I like to try new things, that's why we end up with boxes and bags of stuff that doesn't produce for us but it's fun to try. Super User the reel ess Posted August 23, 2015 Super User Posted August 23, 2015 Brushogs of any size are a zero for me. I melted all mine down and poured crawfish baits with them. LOL! I have no faith in these either. And I also love the Craw in about 4" size. It has replaced the worm on the T-rig for me most of the time. Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted August 23, 2015 Super User Posted August 23, 2015 I could never get anything going with a brush hog on a t-rig either, but the Zoom baby brush hogs were instantly productive once I started dragging them around deeper submerged weedbeds on a finesse c-rig. It was like an "a-ha!" moment. Quote

I have never caught a bass on a buzzbait and I have been fishing them off and on for 25 years. I was in EXACTLY this situation up until this summer -- had them for years and gave them many chances, but had never caught a thing. I started bringing one with me tied on everywhere I went this summer, and forced myself to throw them just a little longer than usual before giving up. Sure enough, they started catching fish. My hook-up percentage is still low, but I'm at least getting a blow-up or two on them almost every morning i go out now. 1 Quote

MidwestF1sh Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Shadow raps have been AWESOME for me. This spring it was out fishing anything else by a ton. Even caught some really nice smallies on them. I have a few deep and shallow in different colors but 95% of the time shallow pearch was the ticket. I was the same with brush hogs but mid summer hot blue bird day I put a one ounce weight and just flipped milfoil in 15ft of water and lit em up. A bait for me would probably be a pit boss. And maybe even a d bomb. Just somethin about em I can't get on good fish with them. Quote
Basspro3106 Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Tubes hate me. Every body I know uses them with success except me. Quote
FishingPA Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Chalk me up for shadow raps, I think the hype killed these. Rapala advertised it as a revolutionary jerkbait and it simply wasn't. The retailers near me (DSG, F&S, Gander) have whole racks of these that have been untouched since they were released and now they are 50% off. I've used other Rapalas for years walleye fishing and I now I use some for bass but the Shadow Raps just don't catch 'em for me and I have fished them extensively. I'm surprised to see so many people not having success on tubes. They are truly a staple for me smallmouth fishing. I suppose every situation is different. Quote

Same thing as Mojo or Split-Shot Rig: https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/splitshot-mojo-rig.html https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/splitshot-mojo-rigs.html Except I don't peg the weight completely, but let it slide freely above a bobber stop. Some call that a "slip-shot", but "finesse C-rig" seems more functionally descriptive: It's essentially a downsized Carolina rig, with less hardware, and more suitable for light line and spinning tackle. 1 Quote

powerduster Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 The megabass xpod and rapala scatter rap minnow are two that come to mind. I didn't like the action and pop of the xpod no matter where I postition the lip or how I impart the action. Doesn't walk the dog that well either. The scatter rap minnow casts terribly like it's hollow inside -- worst casting minnow type plug I used. Also, it is very sensitive to even a little bit of debris catching on the hook or line, and can't really reel too fast; otherwise, it starts to sputter to the side. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 25, 2015 Super User Posted August 25, 2015 My disappointment is to spend way more than I know I need to, then catch sub par fish. Quote
annexation Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Jackall pompadour. I've had some terrific blow-ups and hookups on the Pomp this summer, but the good fish keep coming unbuttoned halfway to the boat - it's a big problem that I generally don't have with the spook. Might be bad luck on my part, but it's resulted in a lot of heartbreak for me so far. Quote

FrankW Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 The worse I have tried to use was the Molix Frog. I bought one when they first came out. I unpacked it in the garage that had a indoor/outdoor carpet on the floor. As I got it out of the package I dropped it on the floor and the tail fell off. Picked it up and replace the tail thinking it wasn't in tight like it should be. I decided to drop it again to see if the tail falling off was a fluke. Nope, came off again. No problem, I will glue it on. Couldn't find a glue that would work. A beautiful frog that I never got to fish with. The tail design doesn't work for me. Frank Quote
