What Would You Rather See On Someones Facebook, Instagram Etc?

I am asking because I in today's age it's all about promoting yourself and getting people to connect with and or like you. The more followers you have the better you look to sponsors etc. There are a million and one people with facebook pages etc about their selves and bass fishing.  I am one of them. It's boring though simply because there is nothing that separates me for the most part from anyone else. However if I were to include more personal topics, photos etc do you think that would help?  Specifically I am actually a certified yoga instructor, I know Thai massage, I am a very big health food advocate and even used to sell meal plans etc and work with people to loose weight get healthy etc. All things which interest me and I am passionate about. If I had all of that combined in one place would it be more interesting or to much?

What would you like to see? Also what about videos vs. articles? I despise making videos. Just not my thing but will probably break down and do so eventually. I have a couple real crappy nervous youtube videos. Anyways thanks for any input.

You need to find a niche and run with it. Could be virtually anything but it has to be unique to you and has to appeal to others. Spelling and grammar are also important, don't post stuff misspelled or using the incorrect words.

Agree with Deak.  Don't try to serve everybody, you need to focus on what you're good at and then get even better at that.  Just speaking openly here, but the yoga/healthy lifestyle bit won't appeal to most of the fishing base that i know and may even turn them off to some degree....

Also, agree with him that spelling and grammar are VERY important in people connecting with you as a social media entity.  Once you write something out, take time to read and then re-read it.  If posting, I would suggest doing so from a computer rather than a "smart" phone which inevitably makes us look like an idiot via autocorrect.....

Last thing i'd say is not to get all hung up on making "internet friends" or being a social media persona....  At the end of the day you still have ZERO real acquaintances to call friends.....  Facebook has made a mockery of the words "friend" and "like".

I'd rather focus all my time and efforts on catching fish rather than catching sponsors or fans.... but to each their own.

First thing to keep in mind is that Facebook doesn't have the reach it used to.  Even though somebody has 10,000 followers, or "friends", only a very small fraction ever really see your posts.  So the total number is essentially meaningless, and most marketers know that.  That doesn't mean you shouldn't build up a following; just don't make Facebook the centerpiece of your efforts.

 

That said, a few key things to keep in mind:

• Never post anything about your political or regilious views....ever.  There's nothing more polarizing than those two topics. No matter what you say about them, somebody's going to get upset, regardless of how benign the comment may be.  Just steer way clear of the subjects.
• Never post when you're upset, have a bone to pick with someone, or want to tell the world how bad such-and-such company is.  Potential sponsors and employers want to see an upbeat, positive person.  Don't give them any reason to think otherwise.
• Never post about upcoming trips, or about trips/vacations while you're there.  Criminals love Facebook for this very reason.  Post pics and stories after you've returned home.
• If you don't like doing videos, don't do them. Not everyone is comfortable in front of the camera.  If writing is your skill, then showcase that.  Don't try to "follow the herd" and do things just because everyone else seems to be doing it.
• Above all, showcase your own talents and personality.

Yeah thanks. Probably will keep doing what I've been doing and stop trying to force things to happen. I have a few "sponsors" that give me discounts free stuff etc but really just trying to build up reputability and an image. I have all of these social media accounts, a website etc and write articles for another site. Also I work in sales to try to appeal more to potential sponsors. Really I need to get a boat but that keeps getting postponed because Im trying to pay cash and not have a loan. Maybe another season or two as a co angler until I get a boat. It's all a long process when you don't have the money to buy your way in like some of these guys.

Just be yourself. Do the stuff YOU like to do, whatever that may be. If the people don't like that at least you tried, and you can go to the next thing. Look at Charlie Moore if he was nothing he was himself. I recommend reading his book he's a goof ball, but he's an extremely successful goof-ball. Another thing would be consistency, do something everyday to make "it" happen. If you post videos or articles, release them on specified days. For instance, Tacticallbassin' always comes out with something every Wednesday. There are two kinds of people when you're trying to build something, the ones who want to tear it down, and the ones who want to build it up(it can be a business, a Youtube channel, or whatever). Listen to the people who want to build it up.

I'm active on FB, I follow some of my very close friends and relatives, but FB is my main connector to news, current events and politics which is big for me.  I discuss my fishing only on fish forums, they are in essence FB for fishermen.
