Saturday I fished a 200 acre lake that is ringed with watershield. Father and I caught 4 and 2 bullfrogs. Bluebird skies and warm weather should place them under the mats. We frogged, punched, and worked outside edge of pads. The bass we caught were small and very aggressive and the couple we missed were chasing frog aggressively with multiple blowups.

Strange that the fish were aggressive and active yet we couldn't pin them down and get more bites. The ones we got were near shore middle of mat and edge of mat. Worked all the points and depressions and timber sticking out. It was like the bass just weren't there. Outside of this area is 20 feet of barren flat bottom and no shad to chase.

Any ideas or similar experiences?

Down here in the ol' Lone Star State, it's been hovering around 100 degrees for the past month, nearly cloudless and rain-free days, and water temps are in the 90's. Bite's been super slow, and it starts getting brutally hot by 10 AM. Can't wait for October.

All my waters are the same. I've had to downsize and go pretty much straight finesse lately. I'm ready for the fall fishing temps

I have been marking some schools, suspended off shore, in the 20' range. Surface temps upper 80's. Imma go out on a limb here and guess they're feeding on bait schools, when they take a notion to. The few that I managed to catch were aggressive hitters, one spit up a 4" baitfish that looked like a blueback or possibly an alewife. My brushpiles are holding a few fish, but not like they were a few weeks ago. It has been brutally hot all summer with falling lake levels due to drought conditions. It is tough everywhere down south it seems.
