SenkoGuru Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 I have a Duckett Micro Magic Rod 7'6 Extra heavy and the tip has busted and the incert has fallen out. Is this something I can fix here at my home or will I need to take it to a pro and have a new tip put onto the rod. I've never fooled with this kid of stuff before and I do not want to mess it up but a buddy said it was really no big deal and I couldn't mess it up? What do you guys think? Contact Duckett and get a tip that is the right one and go from there? or take it to someone who knows what they are doing? Thanks very much guys it has been a really bed couple of weeks and they are starting to take a toll on me. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 15, 2015 Super User Posted August 15, 2015 I'd put a new tip on, for a short time fix super glue might work. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted August 15, 2015 Super User Posted August 15, 2015 Well senko, I'm a bit surprised.. I would jump on the acclaimed warranty that Boyd offers. I know you said you have many rods in your arsenal. I would claim warranty or give them a shout & see. Of course if you wanna use it quickly, like today, try it local.. Best wishes.. Quote
FinCulture Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Either try the warranty or buy the Fuji replacement rod tip kit. I know someone who used it for one of their rods and it loos just like the original if done right. Quote
masterbass Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Contact duckett to get a replacement tip and then do it yourself. Thankfully it's the tip guide and not one of the others because the tip is an easy fix. Quote
RAMBLER Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 You can even get tips at some Wal marts. Heat the old one with a match and with a pair of needle nose pliers pull it off. Use a little two part epoxy and slide the new one on. Make sure it is lined up. You'll be as good as new. Quote
PitchinJigz Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 A lot of guys are recommending the kits and to do it yourself, but I'm going to have to say warranty. I'd assume since the rod has micro guides, the tip guide may be smaller than usual, so a Fuji tip replacement kit may look odd. Doing it yourself may work, but personally I'd be more comfortable having the professionals do it for me. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Did the rod break or just the guide ? New tip top is an easy fix. If broken the rod may be salvageable to some degree but it depends on the specifics of the rod and the break. Quote
FLOPS Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 I say warranty as well. Replacing a rod tip is fairly easy but if your rod is under warranty then why not take advantage of it? I had a car door slammed on my backup (thankfully) rod on the way to a recent walleye trip. Luckly it was an old Pflueger Trion rod so wasn't too much of a loss. Anyways, I just Gorilla glued a new tip and finished up the trip. Only thing is what used to be a 6'-6" M/F rod is now more like 6' M/XF. But it's still good for bobber fishing... Quote
masterbass Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 It sounds like your tip guide broke and not your rod tip. I'll bet you'd have to pay for shipping to duckett for a warranty repair. I would contact them to send you a tip and you could do the repair. It is easy to do. Since it's a micro I would want the correct one from duckett. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 16, 2015 Super User Posted August 16, 2015 Not worth the time and energy to send a rod in or wait for a tip to be shipped for DIY. For 5 minutes of time and 5 bucks a local shop can have me fishing with virtually no downtime. 1 Quote
SenkoGuru Posted August 16, 2015 Author Posted August 16, 2015 Thanks guys, this has been the worst few weeks of my whole life. My cousin died a couple a weeks ago and on the way home from the funeral I get a call that my father has had a heart attack. In my haste to get to the hospital I wrecked my wife's truck and hurt my neck pretty badly too. I stay with my father for the week and the doctor says he is doing much better so I decide I need a day of fishing, While on the lake my trolling motor goes out and I loose the incert from the tip of my Flipping rod. I though man it can't get any worse last night when I was posting this but this morning I get a phone call and it is the Hospital, They then proceed to tell me my father passed away 20 minutes before the call. Some times life has a way of knocking you right in the gut. I made the mistake of saying I can't take much more last night, I won't make that same mistake again today. If you have loved ones around you, stop reading this right now and go hug them and tell them you love them. If they are not with you, call them right now and tell them you love them. You never know when you will never see them again. 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 16, 2015 Super User Posted August 16, 2015 tough week, you earned the right to have a few vodkas, don't worry about the rod. 1 Quote
