Super User the reel ess Posted August 13, 2015 Super User Posted August 13, 2015 DD22 or any deep diver. Prob me and not the baits tho I've caught a good many bass on these. This one excels in the in the dog days on offshore structure in the 12-18' deep range. It's not my experience that they'll run 22' deep on a cast unless maybe you kneel and reel. Loosen your drag. Stripers will take the back hook right off if you hook up with one, which can happen on structure. These cranks are cheaply made. Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I think it varies with the color scheme a lot too...especially where the KVD crank baits are concerned. I have a lot of those all different colors: Yellow Perch, Chartreuse Sexy Shad, Black Back Chartreuse, Tomato Craw, Tennessee Shad, Green Gizzard Shad, Sexy Shad. Of all of them the regular Sexy Shad has worked by far the best for me...I've probably caught about 15 bass with it this year and next up would be the Black Back Chartreuse which I've probably caught about 5 fish on but the rest of them i haven't had any luck with. I use all 1.5's. Quote
MN_Bassin Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Any crankbait at all, I just have no confidence in them. Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted August 14, 2015 Author Super User Posted August 14, 2015 Reading some magazines made me remember one more bait that is supposed to be money for river smallies. The Cordell Big O. I wore out the bill on one without a single hit, would switch to another crank and bring them in. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted August 14, 2015 Super User Posted August 14, 2015 I guess I liked them because fish set the hook on themselves with cranks. It didn't require a lot of attention span, sensitivity or skill. Just keep cranking and good things will eventually happen. Getting a good hookset with t-rigs was difficult for me when I was a kid. My dad didn't believe in good equipment, so by the time I knew I had a bite on my fiberglass rod, they were usually off-the-hook. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 15, 2015 Super User Posted August 15, 2015 The Rapala X-Raps. I caught nothing with them. Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted August 15, 2015 Super User Posted August 15, 2015 Storm Arashi Squarebills. I whack the bass on KVD 1.5s and 1.0s but I can't catch a darned thing on an arashi. 2 Quote

clh121787 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 DD22, anything in the DT lineup except the DT4 or DT6 although I no longer buy them because of breakage issues, Rapala Rattlin Rap. you've broke dt's too? I've lost 2 small mouth cranking rip rap. Reeled in just a broken off bill of a DT 6 both times Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 15, 2015 Global Moderator Posted August 15, 2015 you've broke dt's too? I've lost 2 small mouth cranking rip rap. Reeled in just a broken off bill of a DT 6 both times At least a dozen, mostly DT 6's. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted August 16, 2015 Super User Posted August 16, 2015 The Sexy shad color has been an epic fail for me. 1 Quote
Drew03cmc Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Warts. I can get bit on Shad Raps or DTs, but Warts are a no go for me. Quote
slimshad Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Wow this thread is blowing my mind. For me its the Arashi square bills. Not a fish and I have several sizes and colors. But wow some of the posts on here are mind blowing.. Warts catch fish in cold water for me DT series do break, they are made from balsa wood... Gotta be careful. They do catch fish tho. Rattle baits are a deadly weapon in the spring on flats and also again in the fall on flats. Favorite bait for big spring bass... Bait ball baits looked like a gimick to me from the start so i never bought one lol 1 Quote
tholmes Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 For me, it's anything that's firetiger color. Never caught a bass on one. I've got a whole bunch of 'em in a box on the shelf, they've all been used but never caught anything. Tom 1 Quote

I've got a whole bunch of 'em in a box on the shelf, they've all been used but never caught anything. Tom I've caught bass (and stripers) on fire tiger at times. Other times I've watched people catch them on shad colors while I couldn't. For a while, I'd buy a crank in chrome/blue or black, natural pattern and fire tiger. I guess they each cover a specific set of conditions: Overcast, sunny and stained water, respectively. We have permanently stained water in most of SC. Quote

I don't know why, but Firetiger just doesn't work for me. Put on a perch color though, and I'll fill the livewell. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted November 25, 2015 Super User Posted November 25, 2015 Fascinating thread. Well.. it ain't the lures. Nearly all mentioned have worked for me. Waters? Conditions? Confidence/concentration? Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted November 25, 2015 Super User Posted November 25, 2015 Warts are tricky. The new ones are mediocre. The pre rapala warts were also hit and miss. You have to find one with just the right tune and sound. I watched david walker almost puke as he smacked his 20+ year go to wart against his windshield breaking the bill Quote
atcoha Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 storm arashi, ratltraps and red eye shad...big goose eggs. Quote
Brayberry Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 I can't catch fish with anything Rapala makes. It's a shame too, cause I like the looks of their baits, Any other brand, I can catch them, but Rapala never Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Any crank that dives over 6 feet Quote
RB 77 Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 In general, lipless and square bills. I know, I know whats wrong with me right? Although in all fairness its probably more from lack of fishing them more than anything else. I'm a worm dragger at heart so who knows? I have had success with most rounded style cranks, deep divers and shad raps. I love me some jerk baits too. Go figure. Quote
UKCATSBASSER Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Strike King xd's. Any lipless. But this is mostly user error lol. Quote
Drew03cmc Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 I have to change mine. Warts produced two weeks ago for me. 2 Quote
