Broken Fishing Rod!

So I went fishing out in the pond by my house today and my hook isn't even in the water for 2 minutes and I hook a huge smallmouth bass. But after reeling for a bit, the pole snaps in half! What should I do to repair the rod? It is a Shakespeare agility.

Sounds like you just need to get a new rod.

Darn, so there is not anyway to repair it? I just dropped $30 a week ago for this rod.

Find a piece of ferrule, wood, plastic, metal, brass tube whatever and try to fit it as tight as you can in the breakage to give the rod a bit of support. Use a line of braid, nylon, or some sort of thread and wrap it afterwards. Then take some epoxy or very very strong glue and coat the thread. Should hold up just fine.

A $30 rod is not worth fixing when it can be purchased again or upgraded to something better. Just ensure propper handling and fish fighting techniques when using rods to help preven breakage.

 Sounds like $30 is a meaningful amount of money to you, so a broken rod CAN be spliced back together and made to work almost as before. If you want to tinker with it, email or PM me and I'll walk you thru the repair. A stiff inner splice will only cause another failure more likely than not.

That's an interesting looking break. Very clean. Would be a $20-$30 repair in my shop. Inexpensive rods aren't worth fixing unless there's sentimental value.

Just get a new rod. If your budget's limited but you want to avoid this happening again, maybe drop an extra 10 or 20 bucks on an Ugly Stik. They go for around 50 bucks and are impossible to break.

Sort of. The pole snapped as soon as the fish hit the shoreline and the fish was able to get away. That fish was a major fighter!
