Drop Shot Line???

i fish a very clear lake with smallies.

 

in the past ive just used vision flouro or Seaguar Red Label Flouro. both in 6lb test.

 

id like to spend some money and get some very high quality stuff.

 

what are your recommendations?

 

is the sunline super fc sniper flouro really that great? or are there other brands you guys like better?

Sunline or Tatsu Fluoro 6lb.

Any Brand Yellow Braid 10lb.

6# Tatsu or Invisx, if that's too much. Otherwise, 15-20# braid, and a leader of your choosing works. For less than 10', I like braid and a leader, more than that, I go with straight fluoro.

Sunline Sniper in 7lb is my absolute favorite.  I've not used anything more expensive myself but I really can't find reason to.

I've tried all weights of Seaguar InvisX, Sunline Finesse, and Sunline Sniper - Sniper 7lb is easily my favorite of the three.  Perfect sweet spot of line diameter and strength.

I use abrazX for everything and tried invizX for it but switched to #7 sunline sniper and its way better. Handles great.

Invizx 6# is solid and Sniper 7# has also performed for me. Drop shoting is one technique I refuse to skimp on quality line.

Sniper 7# is also my favorite. I have to order from TW as its never stocked in SC anywhere I can find. If left to 6 or 8# I will use 8.

I run my #7 sniper on a shimano 2500. First year I had no coiling issue. I'm trying to get two years out of it so I keep spraying it with conditioner and its manageable but for one year it works great. I always switch all my line out at the beginning of the year but forgot to order more sunline this year....

I use pretty much 2500 size reels across the board for freshwater, and I spool them with 12-15 lb braid and only use the 7# fluoro as a leader.  Have never spooled just fluoro on a spinning reel.

Really, I can't see anything being better than regular 10# power pro uni-uni'd to 6-8lb red label leader. Invizx is great, too, but for a 6 ft leader I don't think even a 50% cost increase to be justifiable. High vis braid is definitely a great choice for your mainline.

I use a 2500 Shimano Symetre reel. FC is either good to go or ready to scrap from the time of spooling. I spray line conditioner twice during the spooling. Spoil it tight and light (about 80% of capacity max). Pay attention to any problems and fix them right away. Of course the line must come off the line spool in the same direction as the reel spool rotation to prevent twisting. After spooling I spray lightly one more time and then it's good to go. Coiling or jumping off the reel spool is normally not a problem if spoiled right. I start of fishing it a bit easy for a few casts but once it's "trained" no worries. I don't find Sniper to be a problem at all.

You'd like the Red Label better if you restricted it's use to leader material.....I hate to say never, but I don't ever see myself EVER using FC line of ANY BRAND as main line again, IMHO it all handles like crap when compared to braid.  I drop shot with 10lb Power Pro braid, and rod's length or so ( 6'- 7') leader of 8lb Red Label. Been doing this for  several years now, and have had ZERO line issue. Won my fair share of local tournament beer money with this set up too...............I call it good enough, good performance, good price, never let me down,

Not to get off topic - but the king of dropshot (Rich Zaleski) who was a long time advocate of FC line for dropshotting recently switched to Seaguar Kanzen #8lb. with a FC leader ...He now indicates this setup beats his previous FC main line  drop shot set up by far  in every way (except one extra knot) ... Still , there are those who have tried both line types who believe they get bit SIGNIFICANTLY more on the drop shot using straight FC mainline for dropshotting ...What do YOU think ?

I get 3 types of bites with DS...loading up, loss of connectivity, and thumps. Thumps are not a big deal as this is similar to any worm presentation. Load ups and loss of connectivity are more common. Line sensitivity and paying attention are key for these two. I imagine he is getting better feel and thus can detect the bites sooner. once the fish inhales the bait you gotta react.

I use 15lb braid with 7lb sniper as a leader.  Sniper has been good enough to me.

Drop-Shotting is the only method I use fluorocarbon as a main line...  7# Sniper for mostly shallow-mid depth waters.  If it gets deeper I go to braid + 7# Sniper leader to reduce the hyper-stretch effect of fluorocarbon.
