clh121787 Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Is this the best knot hands down? I've learned to tie it well. I almost quit fishing flourocarbon all together from breaking off fish. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted August 7, 2015 Super User Posted August 7, 2015 if it works for you use it . i tie an improved clinch all the time and it works for me .. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted August 7, 2015 Super User Posted August 7, 2015 I use the regular SD Jam knot on all my FC. I've found no reason to go to the double. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted August 7, 2015 Global Moderator Posted August 7, 2015 I use the regular SD Jam knot on all my FC. I've found no reason to go to the double. Ditto Can't answer about useing it for mono, as I don't use mono at all. Mike Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 7, 2015 Global Moderator Posted August 7, 2015 A single SDJ is the best knot FOR ME with fluoro. 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 7, 2015 Super User Posted August 7, 2015 Very popular knot with the off shore tuna anglers because it's very strong when tied correctly. The down side is 3 tag ends and it's bulky with 7 double line (14 single) wraps. Tom Quote
pbizzle Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 I've always used the single San Diego Jam knot when tying my fluorocarbon. As a matter of fact, I've done away with fluoro this year (replaced with copolymer), but I still use the San Diego jam whenever I'm tying a nylon based line. I've also tied it with braided lines and haven't had any failures. I imagine that the double San Diego Jam would be even more reliable if tied correctly. Quote
Jon G Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Single SDJ for me as well. I tried a double SDJ and it wasn't as strong. Just my experience at least. Quote
hatrix Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 I use justa single SDJ or Uni for all lines. They are both excellent knots for pretty much anything it seems. I kinda go back and forth between them when I tie knots. I don't really have a reason for it other then it is something different and to mix it up. They are both easy to tie and never fail me. I don't really seem the reason or double knots if the knots is supposed to be a strong knot to begin with. Supposedly something like 90% or more so any gains would be minimal it seems. To me it's just more line and more knot for you to mess up on and possibly tie a weaker knot. 1 Quote
poisonokie Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Ditto Can't answer about useing it for mono, as I don't use mono at all. Mike A standard san Diego IS the best fluoro knot hands down and yes, it works great with mono. Doubling it is awesome for braid, too. You might also look at the miller knot for fluoro dropshotting and as a terminal knot, too. Snelling is great for fluoro, also, but can be a PITA at times, especially with baitkeeper hooks, but its not impossible Quote
