Before moving to florida 11 years ago I fished all over Suffolk county.

I agree that forge pond can, or rather was a pretty good pond by L.I. standards.

I say was only because I haven't fished in nigh on 15 years.

But I have caught big bass in there.  I won 2 contests with 7 lb class LM's.

You do need a boat of some kind.  all the popular bass baits work,  one of the biggies was caught on a bush hog spinnerbait and the other on a Johnson silver minnow with pork rind.  both are excellent in the weeds

good luck

There are hardly any spots on the island.. Upstate has loads of lakes all over the place, it's just a far drive.

Yeah. I know. I was thinking of just Google mapping and going to random lakes not so popular

Here's my advice, if you want bass the further east you go in Suffolk the better the bassing.

Free Tip: If your in Nassau county go to Freeport reservoir.

Bass are starting to soawn but not laying eggs. No bites at all. Impossible to catch when they are running all over and searching for mates. Saw tons of bass but they were so skiddish. Lots of bass making beds.

Freeport reservoir is nearly impossible to get into. Bummer.

I got out for my first trip this year on Sunday from 930 till 400

Fished a public lake in eastern Suffolk.

Water temp was 52 at start and 56 when I left. No sign of any spawning activity where I was.

I did manage to land 17 bass with 3 others coming unbuttoned at boatside.

Most were around 1 lb with a few good ones in the mix.

The largest bass came on a jig/craw - 4 lb 14 oz.

Most came on a shallow crank.

Heres the 4.14

Nice outing! I'll have to make a trip out east sometimes. All the ponds have different spawning times it seems. This one pond I was at this past weekend, the bass were forming their beds and fish were swimming around skittishly everywhere. None were interested in any lures. Will try that spot again in a few weeks for post spawn.
