I get made fun of out here in good ole Kansas for locking everything!!! They call it East Coast ****, but after living in Delaware and fishing remote boat ramps frequented by crackheads I take no chances! One ramp I use to fish I took everything out of my truck left the doors unlocked and windows down and backed the trailer up against a post :) Just be glad they didnt put your reliever hitch in another truck and drive away with your trailer!!

Danger Ranger is LOL right now!!

They have a pin that locks.

I moved from a small town == trust no one. I moved to the rural farm area, horse farms == thieves will be shot I been told. Yup depending on where u live in northeast. I heard of a house being burned down in vt. He posted and chained his driveway the hunters had no access to there forest. Not good to upset the natives. I go with the flow share my viddles were all cool.

I, too, use a lock for my hitch. A lock on my trailer to truck.

Glad you saw it before you took off!

Get a Bolt hitch pin. Keyed to your vehicle, so you'll never forget/lose the key.

EVERYTHING locks on my rig - and is alarmed.  I've had too many friends have theft and vandalism issues in places I frequent. I use hex keys in most instances. Those are more difficult to duplicate.

And whenever possible, I use the same launches local law enforcement uses to launch their rigs.  Even if they're not there, the risk is too high for career criminals, who know which ramps are "safe" for them to prowl.

Can anyone recommend a brand of lock to the truck, I've seen videos where most can be cut or broken but better than to have nothing.

i had a locking pin became unlock while driving... i drove to the lake (2 hour drive), fished all day, and when i got back to the truck, i loaded the boat and headed home.... about 10 minutes later, the boat collided with the bumper.... the pin had fallen off, and the boat, hanging on the chains, hit the bumper, no major damage, only scratches to both boat and bumper.... fortunately i was in a dirt road at very low speed... to date, i dont know what happened, i had driven 2 hours in the morning, and left the trailer and truck all day at a public parking lot, but i dont know if someone did something to it on purpose or what...

As do I. There are dozens of launches I could use. I launch where the Sherriff's boats are moored and there are 2  satellite police stations

Another thing to worry about is vehicle damage. I've had both my truck hit and trailer hit in ramp parking lots. Fortunately there was an eye witness when my truck was hit. When I came back to get the truck to retrieve the boat, someone(not the perp) had left a note on the windshield with the guys plates. Had the police come out and they contacted him. guy claimed he had no idea his trailer hit my truck. His insurance paid for the repairs.

I just picked up locks for everything today. 26 bucks is cheaper than a list boat on chains.
