Super User A-Jay Posted August 6, 2015 Super User Posted August 6, 2015 Got out this morning early Pre-dawn, was looking to sore-lip a few of the local Bronzeback specimens. Only fish I could get to go were all coming deep from 18-25ft. And they were all 1-2lb LMB no Smallies - not that there’s anything wrong with that. By late morning I’d put a decent beat down on the little green guys but still hadn’t been able to find the Brownness. Then the sun came on brighter, the wind picked up and I found a few nice Smallies. Only thing they wanted was a drop-shot Rage craw – (2 ½ bags worth) Of course I did donate 2 or 3 rigs to the Pike gods just to stay in shape. So there ya go – I can definitely notice a change in the air here – cooler. The Smallies will be thinking about moving shallow more often and staying longer each day. no39 Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Good looking fish. Were you dropshotting weeds by chance? Quote
MDBowHunter Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 It's been all about the drop shot here for the last few weeks. All though a few have been coming on a jerk bait early. Way to go AJ Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted August 6, 2015 Author Super User Posted August 6, 2015 Good looking fish. Were you dropshotting weeds by chance? Thanks - Much of this lake has a cleaner sand or mud bottom. The spots that were holding fish did have a weed "carpet' on the bottom; usually 4-6 inches. Sets up perfect for the drop shot. And they were all over the Rage Craw. A-Jay Quote
Smokinal Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 well done sir! I need to start experimenting with other baits on the drop than just finesse worms. Thanks for sharing. Quote
lecisnith Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I caught my first fish on the dropshot yesterday. 2# LM. Got me pretty excited. Didn't get another one on it after that, but they were hitting a T-rigged Pit Boss pretty hard. Hopefully it stays on the cool side of 80 for a while after our inland hurricane on Sunday. How'd you fare in the center? Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted August 6, 2015 Super User Posted August 6, 2015 "Not gonna weigh it, let's just say 'Nice fish"!!! Love it! Jeff 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted August 6, 2015 Author Super User Posted August 6, 2015 After looking at that video again, I realized just how "gingerly" that fish was played. In that clear deep water, a 6lb leader is mandatory so leaning on them is not recommended. Also, there was a little wood on the bottom near the bite. And you know the fish was doing everything it could to get into it. As I often do with that lighter line, once hooked, I motored into deeper water during the fight to lead the fish away from it. Really improves the netability. A-Jay 1 Quote
