JETSWU87 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Wanted to hear others experiences with some of the deep divers on the market. I spent last week fishing a relativly hard bottom lake, attempting to wear myself and these 6 xds out. I fished 4 diffenret 6xds and 2 5xds. All of the bills have some roughness to be expected, one of the 6xds sinks like a rock and another one slowly sinks. I have to imagine they are cracked somewhere but I can't find it. The one that sinks fast I didnt even notice until it was running hard left as it got close to the boat, funny thing was is I had a good sized pike follow it in and it was d**n near upside down at the boat. I adjusted the line tie and it got better, but was still all over the place after a few more cast. Is this to be expected maintaining bottom contact with these baits? Good news is they are pretty inexpensive and I caught a good amount of fish with them. I picked up a few Little John DD's on sale at gander mountain, I only threw one for about a half hour with no luck. I have a lot of confidence in all of the strike king cranks, as I really enjoy power fishing. My regular lakes at home are man made and have a lot more timber in the water, I like to keep my cost per bait down for these reasons LOL. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 5, 2015 Super User Posted August 5, 2015 None of my CBD20 baits sink. I'd contact the manufacturer, if they didn't sink before. 1 Quote
JETSWU87 Posted August 6, 2015 Author Posted August 6, 2015 I've shot them an email already but no reply in two days. I'm sure they email address they have listed there gets flooded. Thanks for the reply. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted August 6, 2015 Super User Posted August 6, 2015 I have never had a 6xd sink, or even come "out of tune", and I have owned, and do own a TON of them. You got a dud. The only SK bait that I have had be a dud out of the package, out of the 100's I have are a few Red Eye Shads that took on water.......SK replaced them, and then some, I think I had two that were bad, and they replaced both, plus gave me two more extra's for the trouble, and a free hat.................good enough for me. 4 Quote
JETSWU87 Posted August 6, 2015 Author Posted August 6, 2015 Thanks for the reply, it wasn't a dud out of the package I caught 7 fish with it before i noticed it none the less was more curious on lifespan of the lures in hard bottom situations. I emailed them a few days ago and just left a message tonight. Quote
jbh3 Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Your sinkers are probably full of water. Look very closely in the areas around the hook hangers. I have had several that didn't get sealed in that area allowing water intrusion. You can hang them in a position that the water will drain (will take a while) and fill the hole with super glue, epoxy, etc. I now look at individual baits closely before purchasing. Good luck! Quote
papajoe222 Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 If you can't visually locate where they're taking on water, fill your sink with water and submerse the lure (without hooks). Holding the lip and the rear of the bait, attempt to twist the body. If there's a leak, you'll see an air bubble escape it. I only have a few 6XDs and have never experienced this. Over the years, I have had maybe three Deep Little N's develop a leak, but that was after a full season of banging rip rap with them, not just one day. Hopefully you'll get an answer and or replacements from them. Let us know their response. 1 Quote

Canyon explorer Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 If you are running your deep divers down 16 feet that depth is right at 16 lbs of water pressure, more than enough to force feed water into any slight opening. Try putting some silicone on the hook anchors. Quote
Kevin22 Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Youll hear back. Might want to contact them by phone as well. I had a problem with a original s6 bill that broke off the bait. I sent them an email and they replied and said they would replace it. About 2 days later a box came with 3 new baits, a hat, and a handwritten apology for the breakage. Quote

Try putting some silicone on the hook anchors. 16' = ~7 psi of water. Super glue or epoxy is a better choice to repair a leak IMO. Quote
gobig Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 I have never had a bad one. I have one that is dam near a square bill because its so worn. Quote

brown12687 Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Strike King are good people. I broke the bill on one of their cranks when I over cast and hit a rock. I emailed them to see if they sell replacement bills and they sent me three replacement crankbaits for free! Quote
JETSWU87 Posted August 19, 2015 Author Posted August 19, 2015 Sorry for the late response there, Mark did emailed me back shortly after I left him a voicemail. He asked me to send the baits in and they would replace them. I'll update with what I receive! Quote
JETSWU87 Posted September 10, 2015 Author Posted September 10, 2015 Just wanted to update this. I did eventually call in to follow up after about a week of my package delivered. The lady I spoke to was very nice and even called me a few days later to let me know my package was on the way. A couple extra baits is an understatement, needless to say I won't need to purchase any 6xd gizzard or chartreuse sexy shad for quite sometime. My tackle box has more strike king lures then anything else, and it will continue that way! 2 Quote
