Brett Strohl Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 We were bass fishing today and I decided to throw out a pole with stink bait b/c I'm sure there are catfish there, but I know almost nobody fishes for them. (Dad says there are bullhead there) I don't think I had a single bite all day which kind of surprised me. If I'm fishing a lake, should I throw stink bait on a bobber (and if so what depth), or is dragging the bottom fine? Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted August 5, 2015 Super User Posted August 5, 2015 Catch sunfish/blue gill, cut it into chunks and toss that out. You couldn't pay me to fish with stink bait/livers/anything that is rotten and vile. Fresh cut bait will catch whatever is in there, and gives you a better shot at the bigger ones. 1 Quote
Brett Strohl Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 There are tons of little blue gill there so maybe I'll try that. I honestly haven't found a catfish bait I'm confident in, but we live in Indiana so the fishing isn't great here What kind of hooks should we use? One of my friends always tries to fish with small blue gill, but when he gets a bite, he always pulls the bluegill out of their mouths. >_< Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted August 5, 2015 Super User Posted August 5, 2015 I use circle hooks Quote
Brett Strohl Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 what size do you think? I don't know anything about this stuff lol Quote

They are predators, not scavengers. They using a live bait, or a spinner with a minnow attached. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 5, 2015 Super User Posted August 5, 2015 Fish in the evenings. I had a snapping turtle the size of my keep tire hit my line. I dragged it all the way to shore and let him go. He clawed up the bottom all the way in. The cat fishing was awesome that night. Quote
