Just bought the 6'8 MHF off of the Bargain room for 89$. Can anybody tell me their experiences with this rod?

I think i have that casting rod and that is a great price.  I have three rage rods and am a big fan and for that price, you won't find a better rod out there.

My son just bought a 7'1" mhf on clearance nice quality rod and an absolute steal for 89.00!!

I have a MHF 7'1 casting that I use for worms, jigs, and some spinnerbait fishing and I really like the blank, grip, and overall sensitivity of the rod. I have sorta mixed feelings about microguides, but for $89, it's a ridiculous value. It's essentially buying the blank and getting everything else for free.

I had a Rage for 2 active seasons. I used the rod for my frogging applications. During one of my outings the glue around the reel seat area became undone rendering fastening down the reel futile. I was very disappointed, and upgraded to an LTB. Have not looked back since.

I liked the 7'1" MH/F that I had enough, to have my first custom built rod built similar...as in using the same pac bay minima reel seat and guides (slightly up sized from what the rage uses), didn't care for the grip.

How do you like the guides? I already have a different rod with a minima reel seat, and have decided that I like it. But the real question is how the no-ceramic guides will hold up.

I've got a 7'11" HMF on order.  I assume it's been shipped by now, St. Croix hasn't sent me tracking info yet though.  This will be my only rod that doesn't have ceramic guide inserts.  I figured it was worth a shot for $89.

Got my rod today, (7'11" HMF).  My first impression is somewhat favorable.  The guides are straight and the blank is straight.  The wraps are decent and the finish is clean.

I don't like the guides but I plan to put them to the test.  I want to see for myself how they hold up.

My biggest problem with the rod is the amount of threads left in front of the reel.  Other than that, the rod seems pretty light for it's length and power, the blank is crisp and the balance is surprisingly good with a Curado 200E, about an inch in front of the reel seat.

Oh, it also came with some stickers and a nice fitted hat.

Best of luck on your new rage rod. Hopefully yours holds up a lot better than mine did.

Thanks.  For $89 it's worth a shot.

I picked up some Rage rods from the St Croix store in Park Falls WI this spring for only $66 each and they were not seconds. They are very different from what I normally use with the foam grip and different style guides, but after having fished with both the casting and spinning set ups, I like them just fine. I should add that I have a hard time telling the difference in most rods that cost over $100. Rods with similar specs all feel about the same to me

What are some comparable rods to it?

They use the same blank as a St. Croix Avid. The Rage rods are made in Mexico, the Avids are built in Park Falls Wi.

I have used mine for two years with probably 100 days on the water and have no issues.  I also run braid on the three rods as well.

The blanks are also made in mexico as well.  I thought they were made in wisconsin and shipped to Mexico for assembly but that is not the case.  Not that it makes a difference but i figured if i was confused someone else probably was too

I just ordered 2 rage rods. I got the 7'6" MHMF and the 7'1" MHXF.  I've read the 7'1" XF has a very soft tip.  Has anyone used this stick and how do you like it?  I want to use it for pitching light jigs and T-rigs and probably throw super flukes and senkos with it also.

I've got it. The tip is definitely an extra fast tip and the Rod definitely isn't a noodle. I like it for jigs, T-rigs/C-rigs, and some times as a spinnerbait Rod. The micro guides are pretty micro, and I have mixed feelings about them, but overall I really like the Rod and actually kinda dig the handle.

As for light jigs under 1/4 oz, I'd throw them on a Medium fast/X-fast. The MH isn't my go to Rod for throwing weightless plastics, jigs under 1/4 oz, or weightless flukes. That's where the medium comes in.

Good to know. Looks like I will use my MH for fishing Jigs and spinnerbaits.

Just walked out of Tackle Direct's showroom in South Jersey. They're matching St. Croix's bargain bin pricing!
