Super User F14A-B Posted August 4, 2015 Super User Posted August 4, 2015 Quick someone say Dobyns and let's blow this whole thread up. Lol, or maybe "white carrot stix"
Lendiesel22 Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I have nothing of value to say, but this is sure making me laugh.
Logan S Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Just so I can at least add something constructive, OP should definitely check with the retailer and Loomis to make sure it's legit. I can't imagine a rod, especially of that caliber, would roll out with the spec label.
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted August 4, 2015 Super User Posted August 4, 2015 just to clarify my comment (to everyone's humor ) i've read a lot about the NRX problems , from all the breakage and lack of quality control , it is exactly like the carrot stixs years back . the Carrot Stix were super light and sensitive but then a lot of them started breaking . i totally understand brand loyalty , but come on, if this were another brand name , for all the problems and super high cost , the company would be flammed to a crisp !!! people can make all the excuses they want but the cosmetic flaws , reel seat failure , and rod breakage for $ 500 - $650 is incomprehensible . brand loyalty is sometimes blinding .....
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted August 4, 2015 Super User Posted August 4, 2015 I purchased a G Loomis NRX 873C from www.*.com a while back. I just now realized that it has absolutely no model number markings or any of the other markings that you normally see on a G Loomis rod. It just says "NRX" on it and has the G Loomis logo. This is making me nervous as I am aware of fake NRX rods being sold by certain vendors. Do all of your NRX rods have the model number, such as 873C and the action, etc? return it , there is no excuse for that , if it were my company , i'd be awfully embarassed ...
Super User *Hootie Posted August 4, 2015 Super User Posted August 4, 2015 They must have made one good one, and apparently I bought it....oh well,...ain't I the "lucky" one. Hootie 5

Super User *Hootie Posted August 4, 2015 Super User Posted August 4, 2015 a Carrot Stix or a NRX ?? Oops...NRX. I would never have bought a Carrot Stix rod. I don't like orange. When I'm fishing, I want to look good. Image is everything ya know....lol. Hootie 3
boostr Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Well, that is embarrassing. My son's 15 dollar shakespear combo has the specs on the rod.... 2
Super User deep Posted August 4, 2015 Super User Posted August 4, 2015 They must have made one good one, and apparently I bought it....oh well,...ain't I the "lucky" one. Hootie Hey Hootie, did you know you and I share a very special bond? ShimLoomis made three good NRX's. You have one, I have the other two. And it doesn't end there. They also made like only half a dozen good Curado G's, right? You have a few I think? Guess what, I have (or had) the rest. 1
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted August 4, 2015 Super User Posted August 4, 2015 don't laugh , but i still have a 7' XH original Carrot Stix sitting in the corner of my room ,it's been retired for about 7 years 1
Super User *Hootie Posted August 4, 2015 Super User Posted August 4, 2015 You think we have way too much fun on here? Hootie 1

Dam, I just bought my first Loomis. It's an IMX and it does have all the specs printed on it.

Despite the reel lockdown problem which they fixed, the horrible guide system, or even the really bad balance, you cant compare an nrx to a carrot stix rod !!
WPCfishing Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I'm lovin my Loomis, No issues at all. Rod and reel under 9oz's.
Super User deep Posted August 5, 2015 Super User Posted August 5, 2015 While y'all were funning around, I got off the internet and caught some delicious bass to go with my carrots. Markings on my NRX are in front of the reel seat though. Wonder if it's a fake! First generation NRX as you can see from the single tone foregrip. Still no problems after hundreds of bass and some other species. Mr. Bass says: Use ShimLoomis And fear no fish! 1
EvanT123 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I think carrot stick guy might have a point. I build a few rods here and there. One thing I've done is research ergonomics, guide layouts, stadic testing, and weight to death. These factors in my opinion are as important as the brand of blank in terms of a rods intended use and performance. If you took blanks from gloomis and other top tier manufactures and they had the same type of characteristics based on a common sense measurement system. Outfitted them with the same guide train and layout. I'm talking down to a half millimeter and 1/00 of an ounce. Would one rise heads and tails above the other? I don't know. Off the small Sampling of this forum I think it would be a tough call. Op your concern for counterfeit rods is valid in this day in age is a true concern. Like mentioned a few pages back; calling the manufacture is your best bet.
Super User kickerfish1 Posted August 5, 2015 Super User Posted August 5, 2015 Would be nice hear from the OP after Goose52 posted the image. Were the specs there?
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted August 5, 2015 Super User Posted August 5, 2015 what's going on with the cracked cork ??? forgot all about it till just now , i went to a tackle shop the other day and was looking at the NRX's and noticed the cork on one of the rods was split , i might go there tomorrow and i'll take a picture of it , still blows me away that the Gloomis brand loyals would still buy these rods ...
John G Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Would be nice hear from the OP after Goose52 posted the image. Were the specs there? If they weren't, I would return it.
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted August 5, 2015 Super User Posted August 5, 2015 if everybody likes Gloomis , why doesn't people buy NFC blanks and get the their dream rod made exactly how they want it ??? are the NFC blanks just as good as the Shimloomis NRX's ???
