Kyle46N Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 for AOY. Martens' 13th place finish has him in the lead for AOY with three tourney's to go. Ridiculous. Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted August 3, 2015 Super User Posted August 3, 2015 Are you saying it's ridiculous as in an unbelievable performance, or are you saying it's ridiculous as in he shouldn't be there? Quote

Scorchx1245 Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I'm an Aaron martens fan as well, even though I'm gunning for hackney. I want him to win a classic. Quote
NathanW Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 I would be stunned if A-mart let it go considering its nothing but smallmouth derbys ahead. Edwin and Ehrler are probably his biggest threat from hear out. Still pulling for Hackney to go back-to-back, the most likeable guy on tour how can you route against him. Pretty much like all these guys though.... Quote

Good bags of smallmouth can be caught from the Susquehanna, but that pattern has never held up in a multi-day event to my knowledge. It's also pretty dangerous to get to the best smallmouth water in a bassboat (I won't take my boat up there). The winner will likely weigh in mostly largemouth, if not all largemouth. I still agree that it's Aaron's title to lose at this point. I'm pulling for Evers, but A-Mart, Rojas, and Lucas would have to stumble. Watch out for Powroznik too... Quote

I guess I figured Chesapeake bay was a mini bay of one the great lakes or something the coincidentally had the same name as the Chesapeake Bay. This actually gets me really curious as to how that system works. Are they actually going to be fishing in the bay? Inst it saltwater? I wouldn't think you would get into any brackish water until you get pretty well upstream of the Susque/other river system?? Or is there enough freshwater feed from all the tributaries that its brackish in the bay itself. Sorry but this concept is completely foreign to me. I would have no idea how to fish something like this... Probably a tidal deal too. I wonder if Ehler and Rojas' Cal-Delta tidal experience will play... 1 Quote
Logan S Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 The launch is technically in the Northeast River, there are many other rivers, to include the Susky, that all make up the huge body of water that is commonly called the 'Upper Bay'. It is all tidal water and there is a slight saltwater influence. It is similar to the Potomac River and I would guess other tidal waters...But every tidal system has it's own special qualities. Tidal experience will help no doubt, but you can't bank on that entirely. Bass fishing used to be very good as far south as the Baltimore area (Middle River, Gunpowder River, Dundee Creek) but those areas don't have the bass populations that they used to. Most of the fishing for this tournament will probably take place on the Flats, the Northeast, and the Susquehanna. There will be guys that fish all over the place, but the event could legitimately be won in the Northeast without ever losing sight of the launch marina. Shallow grass fishing is the main technique that will play. Quote
Jdw2920 Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 From watching a lot of mlf here lately martens really seems like a whinny smartbutt at times I've really been liking him less and less like to the point I hope isn't on what I'm watching don't get me wrong he can catch fish but just doesn't stroke me as someone I would want to be around. Gary Klein on other hand is really rising in my eyes. 1 Quote
