Weld's Largemouth Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Is it okay if the fluoro to braid knot goes through my guides as I cast? I like to have a very long leader. It makes a quiet tick sometimes as it goes through the microguides on my spinning rod. Will this damage the guides? Thanks Welds Quote
a1712 Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 I do it all the time, also with Micro's. It will beat the knot up some, but I've never had an issue with it and I'm bombing 1/2oz.+ Baits. Keep working on your knot to get it as small as possible. Brian. 2 Quote
Smokinal Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 All my rods are set up like this. I use an Albright and it works slick. 2 Quote

Super User S Hovanec Posted August 3, 2015 Super User Posted August 3, 2015 My leader knot has been ticking through micro guides since 07 or 08 with no ill effects on the guides. 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 3, 2015 Super User Posted August 3, 2015 I use an Albright on my freshwater sets ups, using a duolock my leaders stay on a long time before I change them. I don't even notice the ticking anymore, at first I was well aware of it. Recent memory I have never seen this knot loosen up with thinner lines and leaders, my slightly heavier saltwater set ups it has but it's rare. 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Neither damage to the guide nor knot is of any concern. Fish on. 2 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted August 4, 2015 Super User Posted August 4, 2015 Someone on here told me if it bothers you, put a dab of SuperGlue on the knot. It bothers me. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted August 4, 2015 Super User Posted August 4, 2015 You might try the Alberto's knot. It is smaller than the Albright. Quote
masterbass Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I use leaders just long enough to not go through the line guide on the reel on my bait casters. On spinning reels I use much longer leaders that go on the spool. I was on vacation and caught a 3 1/2' hammerhead shark. It took me 20 minutes to land the fish on my medium power rod. The leader knot was an alberto that has been tied for a long time and it held beautifully. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted August 4, 2015 Super User Posted August 4, 2015 Fg knot ftw Yes the fg knot is the best with micro-guides. Quote
WPCfishing Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Yes the fg knot is the best with micro-guides. I've been working on tying the FG.. Slick knot. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted August 5, 2015 Super User Posted August 5, 2015 what size micro guides are you talking about ?? i have 3.5's(Fuji BMKOG) on my spinning rod and even the albright knot will get hung up .. Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I've spent the past couple years getting used to long leaders (5-8' typically) and have had very few issues with knots. Ironically days after posting about never having an issue with Uni to Uni, I casted off a chatter bait due to a garbage leader knot. I've since spent a lot more time getting my knots tighter and have added a dab of super glue after cinching down the lines super tight and clipping the tags as tight as possible. Since, I've had no issues with breaking or any real damage while on the water. I also try to replace my leaders after almost every trip I use that Rod heavily. I may be a bit anal, but I get angry when I lose fish due to equipment failure. Quote
d-camarena Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Always retie leaders after a day of fishing. Ive been using the uni knot and have caught +5lb fish and never have i broken off. I dont think i can go back to straight flouro or mono Quote
