poisonokie Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 I caught this 11.46 lb blue cat in a farm pond today with a double Jackall Crosstail Shad rig using 10 lb power pro main line with 8 lb invizx leaders and gamakatsu 1/0 g lock hooks on a Daiwa Lexa 721MLFS rod and a Daiwa Lexa 2500 reel. It was EPIC. It took a solid five minutes to land it. I'm so glad I added that bearing to the drag! Had to share. 5 Quote

poisonokie Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 yeah it is! And he's back in there to give some other unwary angler a run for their money. Thanks, man! Quote
GodfatherOfSeoul Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 That's a fun looking fight on lighter tackle 1 Quote
kcdinkerz Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Nice, ain't nothing like big fish on light tackle. 1 Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted August 2, 2015 Super User Posted August 2, 2015 You should remember that fight for a long time! BTW, I like the twist you put to part of the Bhagavad Gita! 1 Quote
poisonokie Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 Yeah, that's something I won't ever forget. I got it from Oppenheimer when he successfully created the bomb, but it does sound like something Kali would say. Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted August 2, 2015 Super User Posted August 2, 2015 That's a blast! I've got a farm pond I fish that big cats like that will crush a white mepps 1 Quote
poisonokie Posted August 3, 2015 Author Posted August 3, 2015 I've heard that about mepps, but I've never caught one that way. I caught a small flathead on a Senko once and I've snagged a channel cat or two with a trap. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 3, 2015 Global Moderator Posted August 3, 2015 Bladed jigs kill them here. I caught nearly 3 dozen channels night fishing with my black and blue bladed jigs last Thursday, up to 10 pounds. Missed another dozen to 15 of them, they about jerk the rod out of your hands when they hit. 1 Quote
poisonokie Posted August 4, 2015 Author Posted August 4, 2015 yeah, they do! Since I was fishing a modified double fluke rig I thought it might be 2 fish at once while I was fighting it, but after a couple of explosive runs I knew it had to be a cat. Quote

I was sure it would be a channel since it came from a pond but the razor straight anal find screams blue cat. Quote
poisonokie Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 Well, I know they threw 3 in there that they had caught elsewhere years ago, so I'm guessing it's one of those. Quote
