Everybody knows soda is terrible for you, but all the same I thought this article was interesting: http://www.apextribune.com/infographic-coca-cola-effects-on-our-body/27559/

Especially the part that says it has some of the same effects as heroin. Scary stuff lol

If it helps you from hiding under your bed in fear, you may want to research all of the information available on this subject, and especially on the body's production of "dopamine".  What the author (whoever it really is) of this piece fails to mention that soda, heroin, and fresh homemade bread ALL produce the same effects.  Trying to link a can of pop to a terribly addicting drug is little different than the bigger child trying to scare his siblings with the hidden object in the dark closet.

Looking into the pharmacist's background will lead you to his own website.  Yeah, he's got his own and roughly the same "news" is reported on there too.  I've provided the link to it, and if you compare the linked stories you will (or at least should) notice quite a few differences between the two versions.  Including reference to another source for who wrote this hypothesis.

Please also note that I used the word "hypothesis" because no one is providing any proof or evidence to these findings have actually been come to by the normal path to scientific fact.  To me this means that this entire "news" article is little more than someone's private musings.  Of course this may also change when a little closer inspection of the website shows that the great humanitarian provides the reader with several commercially available alternatives to this deadly brew.  The cynical amongst us (and I am one of them) might wonder if there was a monetary reward behind the publishing of this entire thing.

The bottom line here is that soda, pop, homemade bread, deep fried foods, and just about everything else in life become unhealthy if used in anything but moderation.  Please note that because I wasn't trying to scare anyone, I didn't include heroin in the previous sentence!

Like many young people I ate and drank what I pleased, never took a day off due to illness or injury over my entire working career.  Thought I was an iron man, well I'm not.  I never drank much coke or other soft drinks, I did however start drinking some about 7-8 years ago.  That along with foods that metabolize into sugar I was diagnosed as a diabetic 5 years ago.   I'm keeping it fairly well in check, but that requires watching my diet closely and my medications have to be changed from time to time.  Some people actually go the other way according to my diabetic dr, he's had patients go off insulin after they have lost 100#.  As important as diet is many of us are predisposed to an illness based on family history.  I can't remember any dr of any type not having a section on their questionaire asking about family history.

I know everyone has a grandfather that smoked 5 packs a day and lived to 90 or 100, that's far and away the exception to the rule.  Something is gonna get ya, that's what old age is about, dying of natural causes is just getting sick.

Being a diabetic is the least of my on concerns now, meeting with a specialist tomorrow I hope to have a clearer outlook on my future.  I'm not one to seek armchair medical advice or want sympathy, I'll keep a low profile on my status.   Genetics aside, you are what you eat.

Believe you hit the nail on the head pretty close...I too was just diagnosed with diabetic's.  Doc gave me three months to get numbers down.  Have watched almost every day what I'm eating and how it affects my blood numbers....amazing.  I have been doing the "Wheat Belly" eating plan....has brought the numbers down drastically...Just read the "Wheat Belly cookbook" and its an eye opener.  Do fudge a bit and the numbers show it!!  Good Luck

I've drank Coke all my 75 years and I've never had a heart attack, never had cancer, never had a stroke, am not diabetic, and only 10 pounds over weight. I can go fishing by myself and manage the boat unloading and loading quiet well. Certain things go better with Coke, like hamburger and fries. Iced tea goes better with fried fish. OJ goes better with breakfast food. I drink maybe one can of Coke a day. I also love milk, OJ, and Gatorade. I don't like the taste of water unless it is almost freezing cold. But all these drinks have water in them. When I go fishing I take a sandwich and drink a half can of Coke while eating the sandwich. Later while fishing I might drink Gatorade or OJ. Too much milk, too much water, too much Coke, all can have some not so perfect effect on our system, so moderation, moderation, moderation, is the way to go. Dried beans are a great source of protein and fiber, and good for you, but you don't want to OD on beans :)

I agree with you. Everything in moderation :D

You think Soda is bad, do some research on Milk...

This might show my age LOL, but didn't Laverne from Laverne and Shirley drink milk in Pepsi?

Ah thanks sir, I should have clarified. I just figured most people already drink it.

Have your home's potable water tested and you might be surprised what it has in it. I once tried to drink some distilled water. It had a horrible taste compared to my well water which is full of iron and lime  :)

Haha well I still drink soda occasionally, but not often. Of course, just about everything I eat is unhealthy and unless I decide to go completely organic or something than I can't fix the problem just by dropping soda or anything.

I just thought it was interesting about the heroin effect and the fact that your body's "gut" reaction is to puke when drinking that much sugar.

The only life lesson worth learning is to think critically about any "news" story before reacting to it.  Those who don't learn this lesson spend their entire life being led by the nose from cradle to grave.

I have quite a few friends and aquaintenances die from heroin use. I do not know a single person that died from drinking pop. It's the dumbest thing I didn't bother reading today, lol.

I have had friends die from H as well, tragic..but the difference is a quick OD death as opposed to a crappy, diabetes, obese, hypertension filled slow painful death that takes years.

In that case, I guess I'll switch.

I'm not trying to rag on you or start anything, just saying it's about quality of life..

It has ZERO to do with "coke" and everything to do with the quantity of carbs consumed in relation to activity level. To say a heroine OD is better than the issues you listed is plain stupid, and insulting. To insinuate that my T1D is from drinking "coke" is insulting. To assume that quality of life is linked to having diabetes or not is insulting. You might want to know your audience before sticking your foot in your mouth.
