Super User bigbill Posted August 1, 2015 Super User Posted August 1, 2015 I purchased the largest bull frog that bog baits offered. I been trying to find a large hook to rig it with no success. My grandson 4 1/2yo comes over and wanted to see my lures in my tackle box like he always does. He grabs each plastic bait to scare the misses. Then he takes the bull frog and ripped it's leg off. That's my bull story. Since I couldn't rig it, there's more room in my tackle box. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 1, 2015 Global Moderator Posted August 1, 2015 Frogs are one bait that I really don't believe that bigger baits equal bigger fish. I've never seen a fish even go after an adult bull frog. In fact, if there's big bull frogs in an area there never seems to be any fish in the area with them. I saw a picture on FB a little while back of a guy whose son had completely ripped apart a brand new weedless 68 Hudd. I hurt a little bit for that guy. In both cases just be thankful the little guys didn't get a hold of a hook in the process. 3 Quote

BooyahMan Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 Man, that kind of sucks. However, it could have been a lot worse, like a trebles through the hand as Bluebasser86 said. At the end of the day, a lure is only a lure. Frogs are one bait that I really don't believe that bigger baits equal bigger fish. I've never seen a fish even go after an adult bull frog. In fact, if there's big bull frogs in an area there never seems to be any fish in the area with them. ^I've found this to be the case as well. Not that I catch huge fish or a lot of them, but my two biggest bass so far have come on a junior sized Booyah. I've also found that pockets with frogs present generally don't have bass...or at least not ones that want to eat frogs. Quote
hatrix Posted August 2, 2015 Posted August 2, 2015 I have caught a lot of fish on the spro king daddy frog. That thing is a monster compared to regular frogs. Quote

Super User bigbill Posted August 2, 2015 Author Super User Posted August 2, 2015 Big bull frogs come out at night. The duck dynasty guys hunt them at night. Quote
MFBAB Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Big bull frogs come out at night. The duck dynasty guys hunt them at night. If you haven't ever been frog gigging, add it to the bucket list! Just clip the tendons in the legs before they hit the skillet or they might jump out - not kidding Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 3, 2015 Author Super User Posted August 3, 2015 Eat them? Doesn't the plastic melt in the pan? Lmao. Needs garlic. Lol Really just kidding but ill never buy another one this big. There's no way to hook it. Quote
Dogmatic Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 FYI Bogs sells 12/0 and 15/0 EWG hooks that you could use, in addition to their recommendation to use a musky rig. I had some success rigging it with a 12/0 frog hook, but it ceased to float. My go to frog now is the 3:16 No Bull Frog at 8", and it draws strikes from all size bass. 1 Quote

No way in crap I'm buying a frog that takes a 12-15/0 hook to rig. I also don't think I could bring myself to spend $15 on a 4 pack of plastic frogs. How durable are they? Quote

I also don't think I could bring myself to spend $15 on a 4 pack of plastic frogs. How durable are they? I rigged their Musky Frog(Bogs) essentially as a line-thru so even when a toothy critter hits it, they don't get to gnaw on it. The 3:16 are essentially the same way, and slide up the line, the nose gets beat up a little, but nothing Mend-It can't fix. I have 3:16 frogs that have well over 20 fish on them. Like I said, they draw strikes from all size fish and the hook up ratio is way better than hollow body frogs. Quote
