jpb3 Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Has anyone have any experience with using a trailer dolly to maneuver a boat on a trailer in a tight spot? We have a tough driveway--with almost no turnaround space--and we live on a busy road. I didn't know that trailer dollies existed until recently, but I am wondering if they are worth it or if they work at all. Here are the specs. I have a 16 foot aluminum bass tracker with a 40 hp mower. Not a big boat, and not too heavy, but big enough so that turning it around in y driveway is impossible. So to simplify. Could I use a trailer dolly to move my boat 180 degrees? Thanks in advance. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 29, 2015 Super User Posted July 29, 2015 Should work fine, especially if it's just a single axle trailer. Tandems don't like to turn as easy. Quote
Nelson Wormefeller Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I use this one. Works great, I use it to move my boat/trailer into my storage thing. Works better for me on gravel than the hard plastic wheel on the trailer jack. You can rotate to trailer in a circle. edit... I agree with JFrancho. If it is a single axle trailer I believe you will not have a problem making a 180 degree rotation using the trailer dolly. Quote

X2 My trailer dolly did not have 3 wheels...only 2 wheels and a leg/stand where the little wheel is. Got it at Harbor Freight I think. Worked very well on flat terrain....I was moving a 18' fiberglass boat and have a steep driveway.....your boat is alot lighter than the one I had....you should have no problems at all.....but still be mindful of any sloping areas. Super User tomustang Posted July 30, 2015 Super User Posted July 30, 2015 I like my trailer dolly, makes moving much easier when I need to. Bet it's even easier with a aluminum boat Quote
jpb3 Posted August 6, 2015 Author Posted August 6, 2015 Awesome. Just the advice/info I was looking for. And it sounds like it should be fine. No slope in our driveway at all. Thanks! Quote
