i have a Penn Fierce frc2000 Spinning Reel and i bought a 2pc 6'6 Okuma Celilo UltraLight Trout Spinning Rod - Model:CE-S-662UL-1(rated 1/32 oz to 3/16oz)

I have a baitcaster for anything heavier than a 1/4oz

Im using this setup to catch small pan fish and smaller bass. who knows maybe one day trout, but not at this moment.

I want to be able to cast lures 1/4oz and under and i primarily will be casting lures around 1/8oz.

What do you think of this setup ?

what rod would maximize my casting distance with a 1/8 oz without breaking the bank (50 and under maybe?)

Also what line do you recommend ?

Keep in mind the frc2000 reel is not returnable at this point so im stuck with it but i could return the rod.

any help would be appreciated.

I have 3 penn feirce 2000 reels they weight about 8.7 oz i think.you may want to go up a rod mine are all on med action rods .but as long as that combo feels ok you should be ok

Don't use a trout/panfish rod for bass. That reel is fine, but you need some backbone. Get a ML 6.5-7 ft fast action dropshot/shaky type rod. I use a 7'2" Daiwa Lexa MLF and I can cast weightless 4" worms like jackall crosstail shads as far as I need to and I have no problem with hook penetration with light wire 1/0-4/0 ewg hooks. Very versatile. I wouldn't use it for trout, though.

also, I use very thin 10 lb power pro spooled to the rim of my Lexa 2500 reel with a 6' 8lb invisx leader. No line mgmt issues whatsoever. I don't know how that peen reel is setup, but add a bearing to your line roller and one to your drag if possible. That will really help things.

Well i will be using it for panfish and maybe small bass. My concern is casting light lures far. Do u think a 6'6 medium fast ugly stick will cast further?

I need to be able to pick up this rod from walmart or dicks because i dont have any other stores around me and i dont want to order online

Oh, I gotcha. Okay, I use an UL bps micro lite 6'6" for trout and it's pretty awesome. It'll launch an eighth ounce lure. I'm sure your Okuma is similar if not better for that. You might consider a 1500 or smaller reel, though. I use a 500 size Daiwa Laguna with mine. The while setup weighs less than half a pound.

Since you can't to to bps, go to dicks and see what they have. I'd stay away from any wm tackle. Ugly sticks might be hard to break, but that doesn't make them good rods. I think you're good to go with what you have, though. Like I said, look at some smaller reels. You're in better shape than most of the guys I see trout fishing out there.

I picked up a 2 piece ugly stick gx2 medium 7ft. Im gonna test it out with, 6lb mono to see which casts a 1/8oz lure farther.

Which one should i keep? My number 1 thing is to cast, 1/8 lure as far as possible.

If i keep the ugly stick and want to go trout fishing will i be able to?
