Nose Hook Power Worm

In Greg Hackneys recent blog for bass he tales about the forgotten worm. He said that a trick he works a lot to show the fish a different look is nose hooking a power worm. My question is what rod is best for this, I was thinking a drop shot rod (ML spinning rod). Or should I go heavier? Or any other tips for thus technique
