JigNBig Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 I was out fishing at one of two lake in my neighborhood and i saw two 10+ lbers and in the lakes they eat brim. What kind of swimbaits would you use for these bass? I have a rod that can throw up to 3 oz baits. im looking for something kinda cheap nothing fancy but i just want to catch a PB and a new lake record. (I havent told anyone) Quote
preach4bass Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 I got my first swimbaits in the mail Friday. On Saturday they were responsible for a 5-8 and a 6-10! They were Mattlures baby bass swimbaits, but I've heard a lot of good stuff about his bluegill. BUY MATTLURES. I also got a cheaper swimbait and tried it Saturday and after about five casts cut it off and put the little more expensive Mattlures on. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted May 7, 2007 Super User Posted May 7, 2007 The Mattlures Bluegill is worth every penny. I bought my first one over a year ago and they are amazing. Quote

preach4bass Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 What's the different between the Ultimate Bluegill and the "regular" bluegill series? Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted May 7, 2007 Super User Posted May 7, 2007 What's the different between the Ultimate Bluegill and the "regular" bluegill series? The dorsal fins. Quote
Tenka Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 What's the different between the Ultimate Bluegill and the "regular" bluegill series? The dorsal fins. Hey fluke, i think you are wrong here, the dorsal is the top fin, its the pectorial(sp?) fins. The ultimate has fins that stick out from the sides at rest to look even more realistic than the original bluegill series did. Dave Quote
JigNBig Posted May 8, 2007 Author Posted May 8, 2007 ok thanks. What kind of line do yall like for swim baits? Braid or 20 to 25 Pline or other mono Quote
Randall Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 ok thanks. What kind of line do yall like for swim baits? Braid or 20 to 25 Pline or other mono You should be fine with either but I prefer 40lb braid. Quote
The_Natural Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 My uncle is a Stren Series Pro, and he gave me several 3:16 baits for my birthday, including a bluegill bait. The 3:16 bluegill is 5" and weighs 1.8ozs. It also only runs $11.99... www.316lurecompany.com Quote
JigNBig Posted May 8, 2007 Author Posted May 8, 2007 I'm definattly checkin those out! they look SWEEEEEEEEET! Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 I use 20lb power pro for my mattlures. Its plenty strong and you can hold more than heavier braided lines. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 Bagley makes a very nice sunfish balsa lure (crankbait, not a swimbait though) in some incredible colors. I bought one off Ebay recently, and just got to use it this weekend. It is a floater, but manages to sit upright perfectly. There are models that dive from 0-4 feet, and another that goes to 7 feet. They are bouyant, being balsa wood, but a couple of suspend dots work to keep it from rising too fast. You can get them on Ebay for about $5 - 8 bucks which is cheaper than a bit store... Quote
Banor Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 I just ordered my first Mattlures bluegill from ***.com yesterday. I'll be looking forward to putting it to the test!! B Quote
