bigtimfish Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Have any of you guys ever done a "dieing minnow" type paint job? Like on a suspending jerkbait? Where the paintjob is upside down? Would that make any sense? I would like to see one if ya'll do. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 12, 2009 Super User Posted August 12, 2009 i've seen paintjobs like this before. i don't remember where, but they were on suspending jerkbaits too... Quote
BIG M Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I've played around with that before, not hard to do. Another builder off of TU was the first I've seen paint a pattern like that. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted August 12, 2009 Super User Posted August 12, 2009 I've not done it myself, but I believe it was Terry da Bassman who I think brought that concept to fruition. http://www.tclarkcustomlures.com/bups.html Quote
whittler Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Most fish are camouflaged to blend into their waters, painted upside down the camo makes them a target. Back in the early 70's Tom Seward, a frequent writer for Fishing Facts, started a bait company which featured reverse camo painted baits. His lure company was sold to Lazy Ike and the baits were marketed under the name Natural Ikes. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 16, 2009 Super User Posted August 16, 2009 I just purchased some lures from Clark Custom Lures and the finish is awesome. He also made me some larger bream cranks too. The bigger lady's don't eat the smaller baits mainly because they want a meal not a snack so i use all the larger fresh water stuff plus some saltwater sized lures too. I'm also in the process of having Terry paint me some lures up for Northern Pike and Chain Pickerel fishing too. So far my largest Chain pickerel has been around 30". While catching the smaller bass & Pickerel I have noticed the bite all of a sudden stop dead. I then upside my bait and actually catch the larger fish. The bigger fish come in to see what the smaller fish are hitting on but they won't hit the smaller baits but they do chase the smaller fish away. This is why it stops dead(action). I'm hoping the new natural color paint jobs on my larger baits will increase my chances of a new state record I'm only two lbs a way and holding at that. I'm at 10lbs + but i have seen bigger fish swim by that won't stike. Just knowing the new state record is out there keeps me going. BigBill Hint; I'm having some larger pike lures painted in bass color lure colors(bait). I have had the larger bass chase my sunfish(live). Quote
bigtimfish Posted August 20, 2009 Author Posted August 20, 2009 Here's one that I did. Cool, ever think of doing a suspending jerkbait? Like a rogue? Quote
bnwcrankin Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Here you go, megabass anthrax has been out for quite a while now. Never used one but they look pretty cool..... http://www.megabassusa.com/Anthrax%20100.htm Quote
Fishwhittler Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Here's one that I did. Cool, ever think of doing a suspending jerkbait? Like a rogue? This is the first (and only) one that I have done so far, but it would be easy to do an upside-down paint job on a jerkbait. The only difficulty might be putting scales on the back (belly) because the bill and hook hangers would get in the way. Quote
nrgeek Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Ive done a few suspending jerk baits in that pattern never had much luck with it .. always have done better in this area gold back or chart back shad look Quote
