clh121787 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Are these reels as good as the Japanese made reels. Are the scorpion I 200 reels Japanese made? I have 3 curado I s and like them very much but was wondering of the quality since they're no longer manufactured in Japan Quote

John G Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I like my Curado I better any of the previous Curado's or 200 size Scorpions that I have owned and the quality seems just fine too me. The new Scorpion is also made in Malaysia. Quote

Super User FishTank Posted July 26, 2015 Super User Posted July 26, 2015 I have Curado 200G and no issues as of yet. This is my main cranking reel. So it gets hit pretty hard. My old Japan made Curados were great and also had no issues. I can say the older Curado E was a more solid feeling reel and built like a tank but I don't think it had anything to do with being made in Japan. It was just better design, parts, etc. and a higher price tag. I do not have the new I as of yet but out of the ones I have owned, the Curado 201 BSF was my favorite. I think it had, to me, the first high dollar reel feel that I could afford (so I may be a little bias towards it). Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted July 26, 2015 Super User Posted July 26, 2015 Mala factory is state of the art.. So far so good. Incidentally I have had a couple Daiwa reels from Japan that were bum reels, one shimano. Poor quality can come from any country or manufacturer. Buy with confidence. Quote
tinner66 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 IMHO made in malay stay away The used E's are selling for more than the new I's Quote

clh121787 Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 So it's safe to say that quality control and materials are parallel. No matter where a shimano is made? Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted July 26, 2015 Super User Posted July 26, 2015 So it's safe to say that quality control and materials are parallel. No matter where a shimano is made? Shimano engineers the reels. Shimano manufactures the parts ( mostly ) they have a state of the art factory in mala. Look for more high end products coming from mala. Nothing wrong with selecting a reel from Mala or Japan.. Chinese made reels? Good luck! 1 Quote
