Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted July 26, 2015 Super User Posted July 26, 2015 I;m in the process of changing my Abu Garcia Revo reels out for Lew's reels , already got a Tournament lite and a tournament MG . gonna pick up a BB2 pro for my big swimbait rod (5-15 oz.) ( Lew's will change out the gears to either 5.4.1 or 5.1.1 for an extra $20 ) the tournament lite is on my custom 7'10 heavy/fast and the tournament MG is going on my smaller swimbait rod (2-6 oz.) hope your reel gets there soon !! i know how you feel , i've been on mail truck watch way too many times !!! chelboed Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 This is exciting. I'm going to get a Pro Mag too. I contacted them to see what exactly the differences are...the internals are the same as the Team Lite. The hook keeper, line indicator, mag frame, and finish are different. So it should be over a quarter oz lighter and bling-bling! The Tournament Pro G definitely has a different spool than my LITE. It also has a longer handle and rubberized knobs. All that equates to a reel that's similar to the Lite, but a half oz heavier. I do however like the longer handle and rubberized knobs. The only reason I'm getting the Mag instead of another Lite (sounds snobby...especially for me) is because I have an HM85 rod just sitting and the black/gold will match it perfectly aesthetically versus the matte silver on the Lite. Though the Team Pro Z is on sale now for$199. The trickle-down technology is cool. As for weight...last year's Top Shelf model (Team Pro) is nearly the same weight as this year's Tournament Pro (G). The best deal in them all right now is the Team Lite for $175 though. That's ridiculous. Aesthetically though...I don't understand them. You'd think they would want to have some continuity across ranges. Now for rods, there's the TP1, Custom, and Custom Lite. For new LFS reels, there's the Tournament Pro G, Team Lite, & Pro Mag. The TP1 and Custom are both white. The Custom Lite (top end model) is some Ti finish maybe? Left to right: Rods-Last year's Team HM85, Last Year's Custom, New TP1, and new HM85 Custom Lite. Reels: Team Pro Z, Team Lite, Tournament Pro G, & Team Pro Mag. Back to snobby: the Pro Mag doesn't match the Custom Lite very well. The Team Lite matches all 3. Not to say that they'll look bad together or anything. Custom Lite HM85: Meh...just me over thinking things at 1 am Quote
WPCfishing Posted July 26, 2015 Author Posted July 26, 2015 Hey pg I expected the reel to show yesterday. I can live with the delay. I'll focus on the IMX rod today then pair it with the Mag reel mid week and get out in the water again. Review to follow. Good post Chel, I'm liking the direction Lews is going in. They certainly aren't sitting in there butts. The new Tournament Pro reel will be a hit too. It has a lower profile. Quote
Grantman83 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 The custom speed sticks are the real deal. Unfortunately I have no need of the new rods as I loaded up on the customs as I love them and have 3 of the old hm85 when they went on clearance. The new hm85 and tp have the same models (spinnerbait, magnum etc) that the customs have had since last year. As for reels, They keep updating which I like... Great company Quote
chelboed Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I've got more than I need for several years I'm sure but I'm thinking about just buying 1 new rig per year now. Maybe I'll take advantage of yesteryear's closeouts...maybe I'll geek out on a brand new rig...dunno yet. I know that you can get a Team Pro Z at Lew's store for $200 now...but these LFS reels are so nice, I might not even bother. Quote
Anantha Patel Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Hah! i couldn't sleep if something fishing related was on the way. Quote

True...but the team pro is ALL aluminum in frame and side plates which none of the new version are...adds it's light weight and power and you have reel which is kinda rare nowadays Quote
chelboed Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 True true. I have the Pro (not Z)...but I officially retired it. I'm going to shadow box frame it with my Master Anglers Award with the lure I used. Funny...I only used it like 10 times. Great reel! Quote

Hope the Magnesium reel is all its supposed to be. I can't imagine it not being the cats meow. Quote

The customer service is top notch too. If they offered a 6' MH custom I'd have bought one. Quote
WPCfishing Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 The reel is in Boston as of early afternoon. I'm sure it will arrive tomorrow. Quote
WPCfishing Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 Seriously Light weight. Small, in Fact Tiny! Smooth as Glass. The knobs are fantastic. Balances well on my G Loomis. It's a total "10". I'm buying another if I can get it. From what I'm told this is the very first one sold and delivered to the buyer. The release date is in Oct. 2 Quote
bassbassontherange Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Noice reel, mate! I'm envious. You have to review this after you have tested it on the water. Quote

WPCfishing Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 More pics: BAIT/HOOK HOLDER BRAKES MY G LOOMIS IMX ROD Quote
WPCfishing Posted July 28, 2015 Author Posted July 28, 2015 THE HOOK KEEPER IS AN ASSET, HOOKS OR TREBLE HOOKS CAN BE HELD TWO WAYS. The brakes are over the top. Using a 3/8oz jig on 40lb Gliss (.010) I had to set them on 1. If I wanted a shorter cast I'd click it up to 2 or 3. Piece of cake. Quote
Super User deep Posted July 28, 2015 Super User Posted July 28, 2015 A hook keeper on a reel? Now I've seen everything! Quote
