Super User the reel ess Posted July 23, 2015 Super User Posted July 23, 2015 Are any of you anyone doing this? at about 11:00, he explains the snell knot. I just tied one and I can tell it would definitely increase the hookup percentage. Seems like it might also have your weight crooked against the hook all day. I guess you need to pull the nose of the plastic over the hook eye. But I've been using a black glass bead between the tungsten weight and the hook knot to avoid the weight cutting the knot. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted July 23, 2015 Super User Posted July 23, 2015 I tie a snell knot on TX rig hooks. Been doing it for a long time now. Only thing, make sure you do a pull-test of your line against the O of the hook. I ended up tossing all my Daiichi hooks because the circle is closed with an abrasive spot - all of the hooks I tested rubbed and broke the line. So if I use a Daiichi it'll be a Palomar or clinch. Never had this issue with Gamakatsu hooks. 1 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted July 24, 2015 Super User Posted July 24, 2015 Generally I use the uni knot, but I'll tie a snell if I'm using a light punch rig. Say 1/4-3/8oz tungsten,4/0 hook, rage craw, and a punch hub with skirt 1 Quote

papajoe222 Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 I never used a punch rig prior to this season and I also never snelled a hook. Now, whenever I do the first, I always tie it up will a snell knot. 1 Quote
