Hogs4Dayz Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Looking for a new baitcasting rod, I like rods around 7 foot even though im not tall. I would like a rod with a good backbone and a sensitive tip. I also want the handle to feel like it is of quality, because i picked up a ducket ghost casting rod the other day, and it was a nice rod but the handle just felt really cheap with their foam. Im looking in the 100 dollar price range and it will be used for just about everything. Being paired with a Lews BB1 SpeedSpool btw. Quote
Big C Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Carrot Stix 7' MH. The price is comparable to a Duckett, but the quality is way better. They have EVA foam grips (on the cheaper models) but I think it's a higher quality foam. They are super light and extremely sensitive. People love to hate them and say, they break easy, or their warranty is bad, or they are ugly. But, I've fished them hard for years without any problems (excluding normal wear and tear). If you don't like orange (which who doesn't?) get the green one. I also would highly suggest braid with Carrot Stix, it gives them an even greater level of sensitivity. They really have that sensitive tip with a sturdy backbone that you're looking for. Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted July 23, 2015 Super User Posted July 23, 2015 Yay i heard about that rod and i will definately do some investigating. I jusr want to say thanks for helping because you actaully just commented on my reel post too! Yeah, I hope it works out for you! The Lew's BB1s are great reels. What will this setup be for? Quote
blckshirt98 Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Check out the St. Croix Rage rods on clearance right now on their site in the Bargain Room - those rods are solid, but the grip is a little unconventional in that it's not cork/foam/tape but a neoprene wrap (that I actually like). 1 Quote
AndyNegus94 Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 I would check out an Abu Garcia veritas or bps carbon lite, they're both 99 bucks and killer rods!! Quote
g man Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Check the new Dobyn's Fury lineup out....anything Gary puts his name on is sic! His warranty's are the best in the industry also. Hope this helps, g man Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted July 25, 2015 Super User Posted July 25, 2015 I like to mention the Fenwick HMG at that price. I've been pleased with all my Fenwick's.....Elite Tech, Elite Tech Smallmouth, HMG (old and new models), River Runner, Techna AVs and Aetos. Nope. Not affiliated in any way with Fenwick. Just a satisfied customer. Quote
FishingMN718 Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I just got the St. Croix Mojo Bass spinnerbait rod with a lews seed spool LFS. Great combo. The rod is $110 I think but it's well worth it. For a more sensitive tip with back bone, try the mojo bass plastics. Quote
wnspain Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I would check out an Abu Garcia veritas or bps carbon lite, they're both 99 bucks and killer rods!! I have both those rods and like them, until I got a Abu Garcia Veracity in my hands. The Veracity is sooo much more sensitive, and Simmons Sporting Goods (Bessemer AL) has them for $99 right now. AndyNegus94 Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I like to hear that, I've been eyeing the veracity for awhile now! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 28, 2015 Global Moderator Posted July 28, 2015 St Croix Rage in their Bargain Room online for $89 with free shipping. $90 for a $170 rod. Quote
Subaqua Adinterim Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Dicks Sporting Goods has the Field & Stream Elite Tech Spec on sale now 25% off of the $80 regular price makes it $60 and if you have a $10 coupon for purchases over $50 that they are constantly sending out, then the price will be $50. I looked at one of these and it had micro guides and 36ton graphite blank. Lighter than the Veritas that I have and more sensitive. Seems like a good value. Quote
