no39 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Looking for some polarized glasses in the $75 or less range. Any recommendations? I've found costa del mars at around that price on steepandcheap. Â They were a phenomenal upgrade from gas station sunglasses for sure. They were light, comfy, and clear. Â Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted July 22, 2015 Global Moderator Posted July 22, 2015 Wal Mart sells a Berkley for 20.00. I wear a pair all day, very comfortable. Not as good as my Costa's obviously, but for 20.00 not bad. Mike 1 Quote
ThatZX14Fella Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I just bought a pair of SunCloud's a few days ago and love them so far. Very comfortable and very clear. They run about $50-$60. 1 Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted July 22, 2015 Super User Posted July 22, 2015 I truly am not sure what you get in the more expensive glasses. I was given a pair of I believe are solar bats that were well above your price range and I have three pairs of strike king glasses I got on clearance with each pair being packaged with 3 KVD squarebills. The funny thing is I really like the strike King glasses, and don't see a lot of difference in viewing quality between them and the more expensive pair. I would just recommend if you go cheap, at least buy from the rack that lets you try them on, that is where some of the cheaper pairs fall down for me is fit and they don't last as long. Quote

I only have one set of eyes, so I'd prefer to keep them in good condition. Quote
Fuese54 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Strike King S11's are pretty cheap and are good for fishing 1 Quote

Not as good as my Costa's obviously, but for 20.00 not bad. Mike I wear a $15 pair of Berkley's for driving and working. Good glasses for a solid price. Knockaround also makes a stylish polarized pair of glasses with a nice feel for $24. They are probably the best low end glasses I've ever felt. Great for wearing around town or while boarding and on the beach as well. I put some Guy Harvey keepers behind them, and I look like the ultimate skipper 1 Quote

This man speaks the truth although mine finally broke after wearing them every day for 2 years and that's because I stepped on them. 1 Quote
AdamsEye Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 The last pair I got was Spider Wire brand, for $20. I can see in the water quite well with the cheapies, and have even turned a few people onto them for things other then fishing. For one they make great driving lenses, and with the right tint even help with night glare like a boss. Â I throw on my blue blockers and... Â Can you finish that add? Quote
paleus Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I got a pair of Natives for $60 on Sierra Trading Post. They were normally $130 Quote
hatrix Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I have had these for like 3 or 4 years and are still going strong. They have good clarity and I like them better then the strike kings. I have like a dozen or more pairs but these are my favorite for whatever reason. I think they were like $15-20 from walmart Quote
wisconsin heat Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I use the YUM $5 pair from wally world. (I lose them often) But they aren't bad sunglasses, they are fairly sturdy and fit my face like a glove. The polarization is also better than a pair of Igogs I bought for $25. Quote
OperationEagle Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I just bought a pair of SunCloud's a few days ago and love them so far. Very comfortable and very clear. They run about $50-$60. I also wear SunCloud's and think they are good for the money. Check out Sierra Trading Post or other similar retailers. You can typically get them for $25-$28 by looking for promo codes that knock things down further from their listed price of $50-$60.  They are made by Smiths Optics. Their "more affordable" line but couldn't tell a difference when I was comparing in the store. 1 Quote
edfitzvb Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 BEST polarized glasses I ever wore were Maui Jim. If you re patient you can get a pair on eBay for under $100. Quote
Bassfink86 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Strike King S11's, I have two pairs and they are great Quote
Logan S Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 The only difference I've ever noticed is with the Costa 580 Glass lenses. Â They have an additional filtering quality outside of basic polarization. Â Even then, it's not like a night and day difference... Â Outside of those, every pair of polarized glasses has essentially been the same for me when it comes to cutting glare. Â Fit and finish is nicer on the more expensive ones and that is what you're paying for mostly. Â There is also a difference in general clarity/quality between glass and plastic lenses. Â 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted July 22, 2015 Super User Posted July 22, 2015 Strike King S11's....I have given mine to several guys who wear much more expensive glasses, and they were like... "Why did I spend so much money on glasses before?"...having never owned anything any higher priced than these S11's, from the reactions I get from people who do, and have tried these, I don't think I ever will. They are pretty rugged too. Mine are going on 4 years old and are in fine shape. Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Another vote for Strike King S11s, which are about $40. I bought gray lenses and then a year later also amber lenses. I now wear the amber lenses for all light conditions and love them. Quote
Rhino68W Posted July 22, 2015 Author Posted July 22, 2015 What color lenses do you guys recommend? Quote
Starchalopakis Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I work at a boat dealership and we sell Yachters Choice polarized glasses, they retail for $19.95 and are an awesome pair of sunglasses for the money. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 23, 2015 Super User Posted July 23, 2015 I'm on my second pair of Calcutta Steelhead amber. $22. I can buy them 4 times and still come out ahead. Quote
jonnyblazex Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015  I agree with the costa del mar glasses with the 580g glass being top of the line. They are unreal. I have tried every cheap pair of polarized glasses imaginable, and these blow them all out of the water tenfold. Crazy clear, and comfortable, and I never want to take them off! I use the amber lense with green mirror outside, and it works great, I can see great in and out of the water in any weather condition. I would never want another pair of shades, these fit all aspects for me. I even wear some dorky floaters when on the water, because I would probably lose these just like the other 5 pairs that fell into the water never to be found again. The thing that would hurt me the most is that I couldn't get them again for what I paid, got a steal on the auction site. Brand new paid $80, retail for new, (I tried the same pair on in the store) cost $250! Heck of a deal for that price!! Keep an eye out for later, the cheap ones will get you by, but in the end, they are the cheap ones, and you get what you pay for! 1 Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I have two pairs of Igogs, each one only $30, and they float. They really filter well and make certain colors (yellows/oranges/reds) 'pop'. I was recently in the market for some Oakleys, but in the end couldn't justify the price especially because I couldn't see any difference in vision quality side by side. Glad I saved the money, now gonna blow it on zMan lures and shroom jigheads. Quote
