fishblitzer Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 As the title reads, is there ever a time when the Zoom Super Fluke doesn't produce? It seems like no matter where I go, what time of year, or the water clarity, I can catch a limit on a weightless fluke. Now given, these aren't monster bass but they are base none the less. Does anyone know of or have you experienced a time when a Fluke didn't catch fish? For this upcoming season I have been debating on fishing the Zoom Super Fluke and a Shakey Head almost exclusively. The shakey head will always put a limit in the boat, not many will argue with that. And for 6 years now the Zoom Super Fluke has done the same. Just catching a limit does not win tournaments, but it gets you started. After the limit is caught I would obviously switch my lure selection to target larger fish. What do you guys think of this strategy? Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted July 21, 2015 Super User Posted July 21, 2015 Try putting a fluke on a shakeyhead, it's pretty cool! Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted July 21, 2015 Super User Posted July 21, 2015 In tournaments my strategy would be something that can cover water. A fluke would definitely be a part of this, in some different situations especially so. I don't think I'd start with a shaky head, depending on where I am fishing, but if I can't get a limit in the boat after covering water, I would probably go to a shaky head and try and scrape out a limit at the end of the day. Super User Catch and Grease Posted July 21, 2015 Super User Posted July 21, 2015 I definitely can't catch a limit everyday at my local lake with a fluke... 1 Quote
MN_Bassin Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 Until I learnt of swimjigs, I used Trigger X flukes 90% of the time, to much success. There's just something about a fluke that the bass can't resist... Quote
Super User RoLo Posted July 21, 2015 Super User Posted July 21, 2015 When bass aren't hitting a fluke, that would be one of the bad times 2 Quote
Balshy Fishing Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 You guys suggest zoom flukes right? I bought pearl and had success Quote
d-camarena Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Flukes never seem to produce for me, maybe its my technique Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 22, 2015 Global Moderator Posted July 22, 2015 I hate fishing flukes and very rarely have more than moderate success with them. Their subtle action does not lend themselves to being very successful in our mostly stained to dirty waters and if I am fishing somewhere that the water is clear enough the wind is usually howling and drags my line all over if I try to fish one. 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted July 22, 2015 Super User Posted July 22, 2015 On the lakes that I fish that are stained but not necessarily muddy, I have caught bass every month of the year. you can definitely cover some water with them and they are very versatile. They used to be my go to bait but lately i haven't been throwing them as much as i have recently gotten back into fishing texas rigs. If i need a fish to break a skunk, it is definitely one I still reach for and it usually does the trick. They also work well as a more subtle swim jig or spinnerbait trailer. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted July 22, 2015 Super User Posted July 22, 2015 The worst time to fish them is anytime, there are much better options for that style of bait on the market now....IMHO of course. Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Does anyone know of or have you experienced a time when a Fluke didn't catch fish? Yup! Whenever I have one tied on......... Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted July 22, 2015 Super User Posted July 22, 2015 "Does anyone know of or have you experienced a time when a Fluke didn't catch fish?" Yes, when I make a cast and doesn't sink, it just skips across the ice. 1 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted July 22, 2015 Super User Posted July 22, 2015 I'm not overly confident in them. I hear people rave about them all the time, and I have caught fish on them no doubt, but I've never had the incredible success that some people claim to have on them. Quote
Jake the Cake Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 If we're not talking tournament, I go live minnows over fluke, crankbaits, pops, Senko, jigs, etc every time. Maybe this is an obvious statement? Quote
Canyon explorer Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I don't think there is a "bad" time to fish a super fluke. Like the rogue, i would slow it way down when the water temp is in the low the 40's. Quote
JDJ Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I've never fished a fluke, but I'm thinking about rage-rigging a pearl one and giving it a shot. Sound like a good plan? Quote
Will Wetline Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I had great success with a nose hooked Super Fluke Jr. for prespawn smallies this year. A walk the dog retrieve triggers the bass and it's great fun to see them come up and grab it. Once the water temp. hits the high 60s I think a deeper presentation is more effective. Quote
MrBigFishSC Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I can catch a limit with several single baits at specific times during the year but not one bait anytime of the year. Flukes are no different. When the conditions are right they produce but not always. IMO senkos catch more fish more often and over more months per year than a fluke. Quote
Quesenek Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I love fishing a weightless super fluke/Senko. They are so versatile, at times I've wondered why I take anything else out with me. Quote
