I just bought a Lowrance Mark 4 Chirp with Chartplotter.

This is huge improvement from the old unit I had.My question is on the chartplotter.

I have not played around with that feature  as I have been fishing the same lake and don't need it yet.The directions read it comes with a built in US Background map. They also list upgrades. Is the basic built in map enough to get you from A to B like a standard GPS.

One thing is the instructions Lowrance provide leave much to be desired, their product is great.

Thanks

No you cannot go from A to B like a car GPS. No such thing as turn-by-turn directions with marine sonar units.

"A" will be where you are when you start.

"B" will be a location your have saved as a waypoint.

Once you create waypoints, you use the GoTo function to take you to a waypoint and the unit will place a straight line on the display between you and the waypoint. It is up to you to navigate safely to that location.

That straight line will not change, it will always be from your starting point to the waypoint.
