Smokinal Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 In the effort to get more casting distance from my spinning rod, I'm having some crazy thoughts of polishing the lip of the spool to reduce friction. Is this crazy? anyone else do this and what materials/procedure did you use? Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted July 20, 2015 Super User Posted July 20, 2015 Unless there are nicks and dings in the spool already impeding line flow, I don't think anything will be achieved. 1 Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted July 20, 2015 Super User Posted July 20, 2015 A very light polish of the spool lip, as well as the bail and line roller, is a normal part of winter maintenance. I don't think it results in longer casts. oe 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 20, 2015 Super User Posted July 20, 2015 I've only ever polished a damaged spool. Better to avoid it altogether, or replace the spool. Longer cast? Doubt it. 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I concur, polishing will do little except in the case of removing a burr. Keep it clean, use light, supple line and an appropriate weight to load the rod. If you're still dissatisfied look for something with a better guide train layout. 1 Quote
