Sonik Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I am going to try some big worms this summer. I'm sick of cranking ledges, dragging Carolina rigs, and waiting in shakey head bites. I am a Zoom guy. But I see the Mag 2 and the Ol Monster and I don't notice a lot of difference except you get 9 Ol Monsters and 20 Mag 2's per bag. I think the Monster is all of 1 inch longer at 10.5" where the Mag 2 is 9.5". Am I missing something here? Quote
Jon G Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 The Ol monster is bigger and has a larger profile than the Mag 2. The Mag 2 says its 9 inches but in person it seems more like 7" compared to the Ol Monster IMO 2 Quote
The Fisher Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I use the Ol' Monster and the Berkley 10" Power Worm. For some reason I seem to have more luck with the Berkley but this is not to say the Monster doesn't catch fish. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted July 20, 2015 Super User Posted July 20, 2015 I been using in the past the culprit 12" black shad. There harder to find but www.brannansbass.com/ has all culprit worms. I also put a worm glass rattle in the head. Sorry luck is at the casino, it's skill with fishing. Quote
looking4structure Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I agree with Jon G. The old monster is considerably larger than the mag2 1 Quote
Primus Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I like the 10" Big Bite bait Kriet tail worm . 1 Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I've never fished the Mag 2, but FWIW the 10.5" Ol' Monster in Plum color was our #2 fish producer during our annual vacation on KY Lake last month. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted July 20, 2015 Super User Posted July 20, 2015 Try both Zoom worms - I believe they do better with a little scent added such as BANG , Kick'nBass , etc. in the bag though to cut the plastic Zoom smell . Quote
Sonik Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 I picked up some June Bug Red colored Ol Monsters on my lunch break. I do well on regular June Bug so we'll try that. I'd like to pick up some Red Shad. Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted July 20, 2015 Super User Posted July 20, 2015 I like the 10" Big Bite bait Kriet tail worm .The Kreit Tail Worms have a MUCH larger profile than even a 10" power worm. Lay them out side by side and you will know what I'm talking about. Also, well priced, and good scent. Quote
papajoe222 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 I use both and there is a big difference in weight. The Ol Monster is heavier and there are times when I prefer it. Don't ask me when those times are because there's no way I could tell you. Quote
zachb34 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 The Ol'Monster worm is my go to worm. Not my go to big worm it's the only size worm I throw besides senkos. My favorite color is black the bags are labeled "limited edition" and are getting harder to find in my area. The magnum Ol'Monster is also a good bait. Red shad is a solid producer along with their redbug color. Don't be intimidated by the size, I've caught plenty of dinks on them. The mag 2 is a lot smaller profile with a different tail also. I highly suggest the Magnum Ultravibe worms too. Quote
jtharris3 Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 I like the 10" Big Bite bait Kriet tail worm . Do you fish that in Michigan? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 21, 2015 Global Moderator Posted July 21, 2015 Like others have said, the Ol' Monster is considerably larger than the Mag II despite it only suppose to be an inch longer, it's just a much beefier bait. I love the Plum Apple color. Quote
