I've been looking for reviews of the new Aldebaran and haven't been able to find much except what was written around launch time.  Wondering if some of the guys who own them on here could give me their opinions after having used them for a little while now?

Its just an awesome reel period. Its feather light but still solid and probably my favorite reel to palm. Super smooth.. it might be my smoothest reel(and I have over 20 reels of different brands). It excels with light baits which is what I was using it for (1/4 oz and under) but last weekend I threw a 1/4 oz rooster tail using only one brake and was getting an easy 40-45 yards, zero thumbing even on lure touchdown. Its definitely an advancement over the Core50. The only drawback I can think of is that its so light that it may not balance very well with a lot of heavier longer rods. Ive read a lot of guys saying the prefer the old Aldebaran/Core 50 for some reason, and its true that it did have some very big shoes to fill, but this is a new reel, not an evolution to the old one, so its going to have its own charachteristics. These are the reels I own that have been staying at home since Ive gotten the new Aldebaran 50... Metanium XG, Curado I, SS SV, Team Lite, Tatula R, most of my old Shimano 50s.

I bought one but my fishing time has been extremely limited. I do like it a lot though, its unbelievably light. I have it on a 7ft3 medium *** with 30lb braid throwing light texas rigs.

Ill be the first to say i prefer the older core 50/aldebaran mg7 platform. Feels more solid in hand and at 5.5oz definitely balances better on longer rods.

The two things that i did like about the new aldebaran was the added x-ship, and the slightly lighter spool.

Another thing i didnt like was the nosepiece would shift side to side and flex.

Thanks for the reply's.  That is what I love about this site, people are not afraid to give you the good with the bad.  Have any of you guys swapped out the bearings?

I will say this, the new Aldebaran is not a major leap in performance over the old. It does handle light baits a little better and may cast a tad bit farther.

Amazing reel...i would however say it is not 100 dollars better than the chronarch ci4

my aldebaron is on a 7'1mh ***..i use it for texas rigs mostly...works great, super smooth, light smd amazingly easy to flip and pitch with.

I have two but have mostly only fished the one with 8# fluoro on a 6'8" ML Expride and mostly 1/8 oz tubes. Have also thrown weightless 4" Senko and 1/4 oz jig/pork. Have caught fish up to 4# and so far this combo has been flawless.

Undecided whether the price tag is warranted but not at all unhappy. This is one of a few dozen baitcasters that range from Calcutta, Japanese Metanium7, new Metanium, Core, CI4, Chronarch, Curado, and Chronarch Mg and a few ABU Morrum Forrels.

This new rig weighs nothing, casts effortlessly and preforms as expected under a load. I'm happy.

I own a couple of Chronarch CI4+'s, and was wondering if anyone could compare. It looks pretty similar, but is it smaller? Is it designed for lighter tackle?
