15# Powerpro Braid=Love

So after finally upgrading line from mono to braid on my MH Spinning rod, I'm in love. No fish yet but it's SO nice being able to just flick my wrist and have my lure go a mile.

I picked up 15# moss green and I feel confident with it. I just need to figure out what I should consistently throw with it.

Top water frogs are good with braid, correct?

I use braid on all my reels, casting and spinning

plus a leader. 10 and 15 lb on the spinning side, 

and 20 lb on the casting side.

 

So anything I will throw is done with a braided

mainline. Leader length and material are up to

you to decide for the technique on hand - mono

for tops, fluoro for bottom contact, etc.

It depends. For light Topwater, go straight braid or straight mono. If ur fishing in heavy hydrilla and pads, then go straight fluoro or braid with fluoro leader.

I also fish powerpro 15lb on my spinning reels. I love it, i cant beleive i used to not like braid.

I use a 5ft sniper flouro leader in 14lbs. I use it for everything including frogs and have never had a breakoff

I'll likely never use it on my casting rigs. The only reason I've got it on my spinning rig is because of line twist. It really shines in that respect.

The braids with more carriers do not make noise. Suffix 832 or PowerPro SuperSlick are quiet as non-braided lines.

No they aren't. They're closer but still nothing like the clear stuff. I have Ti recoil guides on most of my rods so trust me when I say I've been through a ton of braids looking for that golden goose. Smackdown is by far the quietest braid I've ever used... And you pay for that. I feel it's well worth it though, as it's much thinner diameter too.

I use 40# on my frog rod and 15# on my finesse casting setup. For my ML spinning rod though, I just switched back over to 8# nanofil because of the tiny diameter, no stretch, smoothness and cost. It is a weird line in the higher ratings but the tiny stuff is great. I forgot how much I like it in the lighter lines. freakin' perfect for Ned rigs and drop shot or light river tackle.

This post is about as close to the way I fish.  

Nothing is wrong, it's all personal preference.

I fish nothing but spinning using braid and leaders about 20-25".  I'm not in the least bit bothered by any braid noise, don't even notice it, I have tried 8 carrier and all I can say is no big deal for me.

The proof is in the pudding, what do we catch.  In my case I'm catching tarpon, snook, jacks  and barracuda on 15 or 20# braid, Florida size bass and peacocks on 10 & 15# braid.

 

I don't overly concern myself with rods, reels and line, although thru experimentation I'm using what I prefer.

I do concern myself with my knots, IMO the most important aspect in landing any fish.

Just put 15# power pro, high vis yellow on my wacky worm / finesse rod (7ft M). I color the last 3 ft of line with a green chisel tip sharpie that I cut a slot in with a razor blade to run the braid through. First time I've used power pro and I like it so far. I like seeing my line too.

next time you spool up that rod , try some Sufix 832 in Neon Lime , excellent for line watching / high visibility and it also blends in with the water (no need for the Sharpie !!)

power pro super slick is very smooth and quiet out of the box. I have regular 10# power pro as a mainline for my finesse spinning combo and after a while the noise subsides. I kinda like it, though. Makes me feel like a literal fish catching machine.

I've got 832 on one of my baitcasters, great stuff

I use that and power pro super slick both and I like the power pro better. Aqua green is high vis and doesn't fade as fast or completely. Plus with the power pro you can tie a strong Alberto to your leader, while I can't get the 832 to hold one. A double uni works fine on the 832, but if you want to step up your leader diameter, I'm afraid you're SOL. I have 30 lb 832 on my cranking combo and always use 10-12lb diameter fluoro, so it works fine.
