BigBasses Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I am thinking of getting a new rod for flippin and pitchin. I have narrowed it down to the gloomis e6x and the Kistler KLX. I have used GLX's many times and z bones and I liked them both. I will be normally flippin wood. Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Even though I only have experience with the E6X line of rods I think I'd go with the Kistler. I'm a big Loomis fan but I wasn't overly impressed with the E6X blank. Don't get me wrong it's a nice stick but I feel there are better rods out there at the $200 price point. I personally think that the Powell Max 3D rods are a much better rod in this price range. Of course I'm a huge fan of Powell so take my advise with a grain of salt. If I'm not mistaken I think the KLX has a blank from North Fork Composites so I just expect it to be superior to the E6X blank. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted July 17, 2015 Super User Posted July 17, 2015 Neither will perform like your ZBones and GLX rods but the KLX will be closest in feel. The blank is far surperior to the E6X blank. Not sure if you are looking at other rods as well or what the price point is but for a bit more the 13 *** would be a great choice with a good warranty. Feel will be close the GLX. The Zodias rods seem to have pretty good reviews but I haven't handled or fished one yet. If it were me I would buy a used classic GLX series rod or buy a 13 *** during the next sale. Either would be close to $200 1 Quote
kschultz76 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I have no fishing experience with the E6x rods, recently fondled a couple at Canelas and was underwhelmed. At that price point there are other rods I'd be looking at. I recently got a KLX CRT and am so far very pleased. The build is clean and well executed, high quality, light, balanced. I actually really like the guides themselves, and love the action of the rod, but think the guide train would benefit from one more guide in the mix. My customs service during my purchase was excellent. However no experience with their blanks for single hook or heavy cover presentations so no idea if they would perform for your needs. Other options I'd be looking at are the St Croix Avid or Avid X. Fondled the Avid X at Cabelas and was very impressed as always with St Croix build and finish, but also with the weight and balance on the 7' MH Fast I was playing with. It was a far nicer better feeling build in hand for me then the E6x. Also like kickerfish I'd be looking at the Zodias, heard great things about them, they look beautiful as well. Again far more compelling for me then the E6x. If you can wait for it and are willing to be a pioneer the new MB Levante Perfect Pitch or Tour Versatile models should be very compelling options depending on your intended lure weights and uses. One other rod out there I'm curious about so Ill bring it up is Jackson Rods, they are a JDM rod builder and now available in the US from The Tackle Trap. They have 2 series and there's expensive one is in your price range. Have heard some really good things about these sticks. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. Quote

X2: stick it out for the levante. Like others said, the e6x is nice but I'm underwhelmed by the sensitivity and balance. You can do better at $200. I'm sure te levante will be better. Quote
smallies24/7 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 The KLX is a far superior rod components wise and feel wise, and I'm sure you will hear that from many people, but I have the 6'9 MH F KLX jig rod, and two things to keep in mind are the one year warranty, and the taper is a little bit slow for me. Super User smalljaw67 Posted July 17, 2015 Super User Posted July 17, 2015 Kickerfish1 explained it the best, none of these are going to be like a GLX or a Z-Bone but the KLX would be closer. The KLX also has the better blank, I'm not sold on the "multi-taper" technology Loomis is using with the E6X blank. Quote
