A couple days ago i caught this guy at my local lake. There are monster bluegill there from about 10-12 inches. This guy was only 11 1/2in with 12in being my PB there. However he is the thickest and heaviest bluegill i've ever caught. I've always been wondering if there was a state record in there and i honestly think there could be. I don't have a scale so i can only guess his weight. The state record is 2.95 lbs. So how much do you guys think he weighs? (I really should get a scale shouldn't I?)

Do yourself a favor and go buy a good scale. They are good to have anyways.

I just did a Google search of 3 pound bluegill. There are a lot of pictures of big gills but in nearly every one the guy or gal holding the fish is pushing them out toward the camera so there is no way to judge how large they really are. I did see one fat one that listed the 12inch fish as weighing 1.5 pounds.

Hard to say but that one could be pushing close to 2 pounds.  Definitely a trophy.  My PB 'Gill was 1.3 pounds and it wasn't nearly as thick as yours.

Sounds like you have a fantastic trophy bluegill lake...there could be a record fish swimming in there for sure.
