Levelwind Problems On Reel

So I bought a bass pro shops tourney special baitcasting combo and have fished with it pretty much every day since I got it 2 months ago. I've had no problems until tonight when I made a cast and I heard a clicking sound. I noticed that all the line was collecting on the left side of the reel. Well I went home and I turned the level wind pawl until I wasn't having that issue anymore. My question is has anyone else had this problem? Is it as easy of a fix as turning the level wind pawl until the levelwind turns properly or is this most likely going to be an ongoing issue? The last thing I want to have happen is the reel break in the middle of a tournament because what I thought was a minor problem was actually bigger. Thanks!

I had a Shimano Citica D do this and just had to clean it out to fix it.

You might need to tighten the pawl cap.

When you say "Turning the pawl.." I asume you mean tightening the pawl cap as the pawl itself doen't turn. The cap should always be snug, it's not an adjustment like the spool tension cap. If the cap was loose that's your problem and you should be fine.

If that doesn't work call BPS Outdoor World in Springfield, MO and order a new pawl and worm gear and change them out.  Probably cost you $10-15.  Seems like the 1st parts that go out on BPS reels.  It has happened to me twice in the last couple of yrs.

Thank you all for the replies. I called bass pro and they said they'd replace the reel if it happened again. I was pleasantly surprised they'd do that

That mechanism is the one that needs to be lubed the most often.  Lube will ensure smooth function and prevent premature failure.  i have reels that are getting quite old and no problems, because I check it often and lube it when it starts to look like it's getting dry.
