Three Rods, Three Set-Ups--Need Help

So, I now have three rods(nothing incredible but I'm sure they'll be good for me). I would like to know what I should use, which line and whatever else you recommend for each rod. 

 

• 6'6 Medium Heavy Abu Garcia Vengeance Spinning Rod || 1/4 - 3/4 Lure || 8-14lb Line paired with a Quantum Optix-40 || 5:3:1 Ratio

 

• 6'6 Medium Fast Shimano Sojourn Spinning Rod ||  1/8 - 5/8 Lure || Mono: 6-14lb / PowerPro: 10-20lb Line paired with a Quantum Optix-30 || 5:2:1

 

• 6'6 Medium Berkley Lightning Rod Shock || 1/8 - 3/4 Lure || Fireline: 8-15lb / Trilene: 4-12lb Line paired with a Cardinal353i || 5:1:1

 

So basically, these are the three rods I have along with the reels. Based on that, what do you guys recommend as far as line and technique per rod? Also, if a specific reel should not go with the rod I have it with, let me know. 

 

I'm looking for another rod to serve specifically as a frog rod here soon but let me know what you guys think. I'd love any and all feedback. 

 

Hopefully this is the last time I'll have to post about this before I start getting even more results than I had last year.

Hmmm, the first Vengeance MH rod I'd spool with 20 lb braid and use it for jigs/shakeyheads or anything else where you'll have a big fat hook you'll need to drive into a fish's mouth.

 

The Sojourn I'd put 12 or 15 lb braid and use it as my all around rod, using a different fluoro leader as needed.  You could dropshot/c-rig/t-rig/wacky and throw small and medium sized crankbaits/spinnerbaits/jerkbaits/etc.

 

The Lightning Rod I'm not familiar with so I don't know how the guides will hold up to braid (grooving?) in the long run.  Maybe spool that one up with 6-8 lb mono and use it for lighter finesse presentations?

So it's a good idea to put braid on the MF? I never considered that!

The Berkley Shock rods are marketed as specifically designed to fish braid if that's the route you want to go.

The Shock is going to be used with 10lb to 15lb braid, and you'll use that for finesse tactics, I'd use it for flukes and Senkos. The Sojourn is what you want for other finesse deals like a shaky head or drop shot and light T-rigs ( the shock can also be used for these) and I'd go with 8lb mono or fluoro, which ever you prefer. The MH you can use with 12lb line and use for spinnerbaits, jigs and worms which are too big for the medium stuff, you can also use the shock for these but it is a more moderate action made to be used with braid and so anything with a treble hook under 3/4oz will be used with the shock as well. A frog rod is going to be tough to find in a spinning rod, have you tried to use casting or don't you fish enough to justify the step up? Not wanting to make you mad but frogs in slop require a really stout MH or heavy power rod, and you might not have the budget for a spinning rod made like that, I don't really know as I never looked for a heavy power spinning.

I've just never used a caster nor practiced with one so that's why I've wanted to stick with spinning.

I'd love to get a caster but itd have to be cheap lol

You're in luck my friend. I have a Citica E I'm trying to move.

 

The way I see it, a bass spinning rod doesn't have the power and a bass sized spinning reel doesn't have the guts to pull a fish out of even moderate vegetation. You have to turn her head on the hookset and keep her moving until she's in the boat or the banks. There's absolutely zero finesse involved as long as the fish is anywhere in/ near cover.
