fishblitzer Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Going fishing at a local lake here in South Alabama for Largemouth. I'll be fishing around sunset from the bank. This place is loaded with trophy bass. The temperature has been in the upper 90's every day and we have had very little rain. It hasn't rained in probably a week now. The water temperature at the surface is in the mid 90's as well. The water clarity is 15-16 inches. This lake is a manmade 20 acre lake, it has a rock bank, a sandy beach type bank, creek channels, and brush piles from 15 feet deep to 3 feet deep. It has a few small inlets but is mostly a typical man-made lake in the way it slowly slopes off into creek channels near the middle. My question is, how would you go about fishing this lake from the bank and what would you be throwing? Here are my 3 setups I have planned: 1.) Biffle Hardhead with a Zoom Magnum worm 2.) Carolina Rig with a trick worm 3.) A topwater of some sort I know I didn't give much information on the lake but that's the best I know how to describe it. If you need to know more just let me know and I'll answer! Thanks! Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted July 16, 2015 Super User Posted July 16, 2015 I would probably start with a Squarebill on the rock bank. Start searching, moving from spot to spit, and then maybe slow down with some of the plastics you mentioned after you find fish. Parallel the bank anytime you can, and see if you can reach the creek channel with a lipless or crankbait of some sort, along with the plastics. Fish a Cr rig through those brushpiles, with a monofilament leader long enough for the bass to see your lure. Quote
Super User deep Posted July 16, 2015 Super User Posted July 16, 2015 A map would help immensely. Quote
fishblitzer Posted July 16, 2015 Author Posted July 16, 2015 A map would help immensely. Sorry for the delay. It is also much larger than 20 acres, it is in fact 50. A creek channel runs down each finger and meets in the middle between the two. Then the channel runs down the center of the lake. The rock bank is on the bottom left of the picture. Quote
the bass wrangler Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 hey man! the water is very hot so the fish will be very active. the fish are going to find the coolest parts of the lake. you want to find some cover thatll make shade, like bushes in the water or mats of weeds. on the mats of weeds, you can toss a frog or punch it, and the bushes, you want to just toss something inside it, like a jig, frog, soft plastic etc. like I said they'll find the coldest parts of the lake. also, hot water cant hold as much oxygen, so theyl be around plants, so if you cant get any on the mats, find some weeds offshore, and run a jig or crank bait over them. so my top setups would be, frog, jig that's heavy enough to punch and throw into bushes, and some sort of soft plastic Quote
fishblitzer Posted July 16, 2015 Author Posted July 16, 2015 Thanks for the reply bass wrangler! There is no grass or mats in the lake and I noticed aerators around the edges Tuesday when I fished it so it must be very low on oxygen(not sure how this effects them?). The brush pules are single and double cedar trees laid across each other or there are a few vertically standing. I will try and get a worm up in the brush piles the next time I go out! Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted July 17, 2015 Super User Posted July 17, 2015 If it's local and only 50 acres, just fish the whole thing in a series of 2-3 trips and you'll get a feel for it. Quote

I wish it were that easy. I've been fishing it for 2 or 3 years now and have yet to find a pattern or technique that works well. I never catch small fish and if I catch a big one(7+) it'll be my only fish in 4-5 hours I'm out. It's a peculiar fishery but I heard a 11 pounder was caught out of it a few months ago. I've tried every thing under the sun and still not feeling confident, that's why I made this post. I figure maybe someone could look at it and find something I may not have tried or that will produce regularly. Quote
