Looking to put together a budget, dedicated shakey head/ drop shot rod. Found a 6'6 m southbend eclipse. I know most guys use a medium light, but this rod seems to have a ton of tip. I was planning on pairing it with a shimano Sedona that's on sale at dicks for 39.99, and spooling up with some 6lb flouro clear. Any thoughts?

I only have one legit spinning combo (prefer my baitcasters), it's a 7ft medium Duckett ghost with a Lews tournamnet pro, but I want to keep this rod freed up for my smaller tubes, easy shiners, weightless senkos, etc.

Sounds like you've already got the ideal rod for shaky head fishing with that 7' M Duckett.

Think of fishing a shaky head like a scaled down version of a jig. You're on the bottom, you've got a much bigger hook than most drop shot applications, and you may have a good deal of line out. You're going to need a stronger hookset than fishing a drop shot.

Always use the right tool for the job.

Yep to the last post. M is good for SH fishing and ML is better for most DS fishing. Rethink the Sedona. I bought one looking for an economy setup and was wrong. If you are looking to spend less than $80 go with Pflueger. Shimano Sahara is a decent reel at $80. Sedona is not a good reel. It feels cheap and performs the same. Shimano makes a great product but they are bad at low end products. If you have to have one let me know and I'll sell you mine for $25.
