Murrica Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 The only use I could see this for would be when tying 80-100lb mono for sturgeon leaders for me. You could still hide the weld in the bait. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 17, 2015 Super User Posted July 17, 2015 Judging by the sheer volume of knot threads started hear, is say there's a huge business opportunity for such a device. Thing is, it has to work. Get the marketing right, and it will sell. Fixed that for you Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 17, 2015 Super User Posted July 17, 2015 Many of the knot threads deal with diameter and strength of joining knots.  Don't notice knots like a palomar, loopknot, clinch and improved clinch giving people near as many fits.  The improved clinch knot in the video didn't appear to be tied all that well.  One reason people use FC is for stealth, the weld didn't look to be very stealthy. Takes but a few seconds to crimp line, the welder even at the speed of an eye blink time saved is minimal.  I will say different line sizes requires different crimping sleeves, I'll give the welder a slight nod.  However is the welder going to work with wire leaders, as no mention was made probably not.  Fish are caught from less than pound to well over a 100 using nothing but an ordinary clinch to attach a hook or lure, pull thru is rare and simply singeing the tag end is a good preventative.  The bass fisherman in the video addresses the issue of tying many knots, lots of bass fisherman have a bevy of rods already tied up, when they change lures quite often are using something like a duolock.  It's a cute little toy but that's all it is, a toy.  Well tied knots already have a proven track record, if the item is still around in a couple of years (which I doubt) I'll check it out then.  In the meantime I'm not loosing any fish because my hook or lure knot is failing. 1 Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Â $119.00 for the regular and $229.00 for the Limited Edition. Â Yikes! Â Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 17, 2015 Super User Posted July 17, 2015 Not a bad product at all. Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted July 18, 2015 Super User Posted July 18, 2015 if that line welder can be used on all types of line from 1 pound to 100 pound, I say it just might be a good thing to have and wave of the future. Of course for it to be really good it needs to effective on mono, fluoro and braid. See I actually think that is it's biggest detractor currently. That would be great for 100# but it's just too big and clunky to be viable for finesse diameter lines, cranking etc. if they had a much smaller version they might sell a bunch to bass fishermen. Not like that though IMO. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted July 18, 2015 Super User Posted July 18, 2015 One pass thru the hook eye, one loose loop. Now the hook eye swivels and wears the line in the eye area. There's no clinch. Quote
Bruce424 Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Would be great for handicapped. Missing fingers, hand, arm. Quote
Super User MickD Posted July 19, 2015 Super User Posted July 19, 2015 Regarding the diameter of the weld, is it not simply the welding together of two pieces of the same line?  Which makes it smaller in diameter than every other knot I've ever seen at two diameters.  The length is probably predicated on weld strength which will be proportional to length.  The weld can be located anywhere giving as big a loop as you want, so shouldn't kill lure action.  Good comments on handicapped value.  It will be interesting to see if it really can handle all lines, all diameters, possibly welds contaminated with dirt, scum, sun tan oil, in the rain, in the cold.  I think it has a great chance to work for most conditions, but if not all conditions will it be worth the price?  One last question would be how are the characteristics of the line changed with melting it?  I would think the temp control would have to be very good.  But  it is very clever, and I'm rooting for their success. They should have said "landed" bigger fish, a knot or weld doesn't catch fish the lure does.  This is gimmick for the guy that has everything and doesn't know what to do with his millions.   If one is having knot problems, one needs just to go back to re learn the basics, this toy will not land any more fish than a well tied knot. 1 Quote
GetJigginWithIt Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I bet I can tie the knot I use faster and I never have a knot breaking issue. Quote

Super User WIGuide Posted July 20, 2015 Super User Posted July 20, 2015 Man, if this sucker is affordable like their line cutter, it should only run $600-700!! At that price I couldn't imagine not buying two so I can make two jumbo snot wads in front of my bait and really dupe those crafty bass. Plus I wouldn't have to learn the tricky art form of tying knots! Â It'll really come in handy since I know tying knots in any condition other than clear sunny skies and no wind will hamper my art forming ability! Besides, who doesn't want to catch bigger fish, just like they said in the video! I am totally sold on this! hahahaha Quote
jignfule Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 There are many thing I hate about bass fishing more than having to tie knots. I hate having to cast my lure out and then reel it back in. What I really hate is having to set the hook, that is almost unbearable. I hate having to watch my line and especially having to keep my eyes on a topwater lure so I know when I have to made that ungodly hook set. They need to take care of these inconviences before worrying about a line welder. 1 Quote
offsidewing Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I live with the daily guilt of losing my 13 year old son's (at least) 5 lb smallie at the boat last year because I tied a bad knot. It was the biggest smallmouth I've seen in person. It rolled and took off under the boat as I was reaching down to get it. We watched as the bent rod slowly straightened as the knot untied. All that was left when he reeled in the line was a gnarled pigtail. I watched a million youtube videos that night on how to tie knots. I feel better in my knot tying skill now, but if a device like that works, it would be a nice compliment to a tackle box. Quote
Super User Further North Posted July 21, 2015 Super User Posted July 21, 2015 You have got to be kidding me. What is next you type in some specs and a 3D printer pops out a lure already attached to your line. I thought fishing was supposed to be getting away from the everyday life and silly technology we have to deal with. Not sure about that...I use all kinds of technology when I fish:  Modern welded hull aluminum boat Stainless steel props that are engineered and manufactured to do so much more than 1970s props it's amazing Modern, fuel efficient, quiet and low emissions 4 stroke outboard Two depth finders, with regular sonar, down imaging, side imaging, GPS with 1' increment mapping Humminbird 360° 36 volt trolling motor with GPS enabled features like Spot Lock, contour following, speed control and heading setting. Fishing lines with all kinds of enhancements over what I used in 1974, in mono, flurocarbon (didn't even exist when I was a kid) and super braids Fishing rods that are super light, super responsive and engineered to specific fishing techniques Fishing reels that are smaller, lighter, faster, have better controls and drags than anything that was available in the 60s and 70s. Computer designed manufactured lures that are far beyond what was available when I was a kid - soft plastics, hard baits...you name it Terminal tackle like tieable wire leaders, ultra tiny but extremely small swivels... A canoe that is so much lighter and more durable than the aluminum or fiberglass ones available when I was a kid that it's not even a fair comparison. A vehicle to tow it all to the boat ramp that has no problem moving the laod, yet still gets upper 20s in MPG day to day ...that's a quick baker's dozen...I'm sure others might find things I missed. Purcupile Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 I am excited about this product. As a Viet Nam vet, I was exposed to Agent Orange and as a result my hands and feet are totally numb...the numb feet present a separate problem. Last summer I went to Michigan to go fishing. In a week of fishing I didn't catch one fish, in fact I never had a bite...I couldn't tie a knot...well I did tie one and it took me 2 1/2 hours, but by then it was almost dark...I would suggest to all of you expert naysayers to put on a pair of gloves and go tie your fishing knots.  Ill be heading back to Michigan in a few weeks to go fishing...I hope I am as smart as all of you.        1 Quote
pondbassin101 Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 I'll stick to my Palomars, my $120 can be well spent elsewhere. Unless you're missing a finger or have bad eyesight, this is just another gimmick IMO Quote
