dropshottah Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Informations begin to leak out... The retail price is gonna be 199.99$ I might become a proud owner 1 Quote
bootytrain Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 From the pic I saw it looks to be a rebadged Hyuga, Quote
DirtyDeuceGoose Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 It's not the Hyuga, Megabass rep has said it's a from scratch lineup. 1 Quote
thehooligan Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 It's not the Hyuga, Megabass rep has said it's a from scratch lineup. Same reelseat, its looking like a usdm hyuga... Either way, sounds good to me at $199. The new 13 omens were going to be my kayak beater rods but i might go levante instead 1 Quote

sprint61 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Sweet a megabass that's in my price range. I was needing a new jig Rod. Quote
kschultz76 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I'm interested to see what MB does at this price point. If they want to compete they've got to be high performing quality builds with good components. This is a highly competitive price point. I'm hoping they'll be cork grips, but I'm also assuming at 199 they'll be Eva. Quote
kschultz76 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Looks like they're going to be split grip with Eva, but a very comfy looking reel seat. Just saw some pics. Quote
IAY Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 All of my expensive rods have EVA grips on them. I think you will change your mind, if you get to use them. Quote

Maybe not all Eva is created equal, but I've tried a couple Eva grips and just don't like how it feels in hand and have found them more slippery then cork. Especially a Shimano Comre I tried recently. After several outings with it I returned it. Quote
DirtyDeuceGoose Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 From what I've heard they will still have that Megabass feel but there will be a noticable difference between them and even the XX at $100 more. With that being said we have seen some pretty sweet rods come in at a budget price point and I'm sure these won't disappoint. As far as the similarities between this and the Hyuga, maybe the "from scratch" comment was geared towards the USDM market. Quote
Cgrinder Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Direct competition with the Shimano Zodias. Bold move Cotton. 1 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted July 15, 2015 Super User Posted July 15, 2015 It's a bold strategy Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for em. Love that movie. 3 Quote
DirtyDeuceGoose Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I didn't realize the Hyuga was only going for about $150 from Japan. I thought the $199 Levante would be more with the whole exchange rate inflation, like the Alphas SV going for $270 here. You all very well may be correct in thinking it's just a US release under a different title. Quote
bootytrain Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I have a hyuga, its a nice rod for the money. Quote
kschultz76 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I'm personally inclined to believe the MB rep that these are a scratch build for the USDM market just like the XX line up was. With MB being a global brand, and MB already distributing JDM products like the X4s in the US there's really no sense in rebadging the Hyuga and not just bringing it over as is. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 16, 2015 Super User Posted July 16, 2015 Looks like an awesome rod and the $200 price point will put it head to head with G.Loomis E6X, Shimano Crucial and St. Croix Avid. Got a love companies competing against each other. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted July 16, 2015 Super User Posted July 16, 2015 I'll be trying 1, or 6 lol. I'm happy they are offering a budget rod finally, but I also am slightly sad that now seemingly everyone will own a MB rod. Quote
kschultz76 Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Just saw the line up. A selection of the same models as the XX series. Normal sized Fuji Alconites. They say the will feel different in hand and lighter action. Quote

If not I will probably still add one just need to hear from Gary first as to what may suit be best! Quote

From what I saw they rent doing the Jerkbait Special, ashame its a really fun rod. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted July 16, 2015 Super User Posted July 16, 2015 It would be nice to see Megabass bring the Super Red Demon to a lower price point...such an amazing stick. I literally look for an excuse to use it. Quote
Cgrinder Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 I'm actually upset that they're just reusing models and names from the XX series. Quote
