Super User Montanaro Posted July 15, 2015 Super User Posted July 15, 2015 Saw a picture of the alpha sv at icast with hashtag daiwa usa. Wonder what the price will be and how it will differ from jdm. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted July 15, 2015 Super User Posted July 15, 2015 I would still buy them from Japan. Hard to beat the price they can be had at given the exchange rate. Quote

DirtyDeuceGoose Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Yeah for $270 I'll get one from Japan Quote
DirtyDeuceGoose Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I'll do a happy dance when I buy one and spool swaps 1:1 with my OG Zillion family!! I bet Daiwa did this on purpose. They took away two of their beloved platforms just to tug on our heartstrings and boost sales of the new iterations! Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted July 15, 2015 Super User Posted July 15, 2015 Looks like your prayers have been answered. 1 Quote
DirtyDeuceGoose Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 And the XS maintains the purple color scheme! I was hoping for a purple Type R a while back but I can settle for a purple SV all day. Quote
DirtyDeuceGoose Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Looks like they changed the spool tension knob too. Quote
Hogsticker Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Hopefully the 105 is also made in Japan. I'm sure it is. Daiwa knew if they brought another Tatula framed reel to the party they might be sending some innocent fisherman to prison! I wonder if the Zillion Tws sales will suffer with the introduction of the 103 with the most versatile spool they have ever made. Talk about a work horse. 1 Quote
sarcazmo Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Very dissappointed in the price. I'll save the 70 bucks and grab it from japan. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted July 16, 2015 Super User Posted July 16, 2015 Disappointed in Daiwa as a whole right now. Once again, no workhorse reel in the $150 - $200 range that weighs less than 7.5oz, no more Daiwa for me I guess. Quote

Jdm Alphas Sv is 6oz and $200. Throws light and heavy... Problem solved. I feel all of them are workhorse reels. Never had an issue with any of them. I know people who use a pxr for frogs. Not a single issue either. The tatula is a super solid reel @ $100 Quote

The tatula is a super solid reel @ $100 Tatula is too heavy and too wide at the top, that taper is not comfortable to palm, believe me, I wanted to like that reel. At the time of the TD Advantage and TD-X, there wasn't any super light reels so it wasn't a problem, but after I've been using a Revo Premier, then a Quantum Smoke, and the Lews Tournament pro and a Pflueger Supreme XT, all of which are sub 7oz reels and then you pick up a Tatula, it feels like a brick, sorry. The JDM Alphas SV is what gets me disappointed, why can they have that reel in Japan and over here, unless you pay $300 you're stuck with reels around the 8oz realm. The days of Daiwa being one of my favorites has gone, nothing against them, just personal disappointment in that they don't offer mid tier anglers anything considered light weight (under 7.5oz) in that $150 - $200 range. They make the best high end reels on the planet in my view but they can compete with Lews when it comes to anything under $270. Quote

I'm weird and almost like the fact their reel was a little heavier... Garcia made their gen 3 lighter and lighter now they don't hold up. I know Daiwa is a completely different ball game but I hope next year we maybe get one a little lighter too! Quote
