Basspro3106 Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 If I was fishing in a pike tourney last week I would have easily won it. While fishing a bass tournament last month I landed five pike and one bass. how often do you guys catch pike while tournament fishing. I love all fish but man I was getting pretty salty after the third one. Quote
Smokinal Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 I stopped fishing one of my favorite bass lakes due the overrun of Northerns in there. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted July 14, 2015 Super User Posted July 14, 2015 I stopped fishing one of my favorite bass lakes due the overrun of Northerns in there. Yeah that sucks! But hey it's time to have a fish fry? 2 Quote
yugrac Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Hey, it could be worse, the last 16 fish I have caught while bass fishing were channel cat. Slimey, wiggly, grunting, and I have been "horned" 3 times, 2 drew blood. I would take a pike about now. 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted July 15, 2015 Super User Posted July 15, 2015 We catch pike and musky quite often during tourneys, along with walleye and catfish. I don't mind the fight, the pike tend to bite off lures and the musky destroy them. I went fun fishing a few weeks ago and my son and I caught maybe 10 bass and another 40 pike. Most of the bass were bigger than the pike. Next time one ticks you off, gut it, stuff it with onions and potato's and your favorite spices, wrap it in foil and throw it on the grill. That'll show them who's boss. 1 Quote

That's better than around here where 3 out of 4 toothy critters bite you off! 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 15, 2015 Super User Posted July 15, 2015 If I had pike and muskie is South Florida you bet I'd be targeting them, I like catching all kinds of fish. I have a good variety down here. 2 Quote
DevinFishing29 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I don't fish tourneys but I get a lot of pike in the lake I fish. They are kinda annoying biting off lures all the time. Other then them biting off lures I like pike. Quote
Derekbass02 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I don't think I have ever got bit off. This year I have caught 11 pike with 10 of them coming on lures that didn't have wire leaders. Some were even caught on small Crappie jigs with 6 pound mono. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 16, 2015 Super User Posted July 16, 2015 If one has never been cut off one is not doing very much fishing and has been pretty lucky. I get cut off all the time, I generally don't use wire as I feel I get way less strikes. Quote
Neil McCauley Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Pike suspend at 30' over 100-200' flats for smelt all summer on my lake so despite being an excellent pike fishery they're never much of a problem. I have never caught one while fishing for bass in the summer. Pickerel are another story though... I rarely get bit off, but it's even worse pulling one into a small canoe with it flopping around tangling up line and sliming everything up. Especially when it has taken a crankbait with treble hooks on it. SMB here throw barbed treble hooks routinely but pickerel manage to get them lodged way back in their throats and gills. Have to bring a d**n tool box with side-cutters and extractors and extra trebles. Quote
DevinFishing29 Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 I fish out of a canoe. The pike I do catch are very annyoing flopping around in the canoe. lol. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted July 17, 2015 Super User Posted July 17, 2015 I don't like 'em! I mean, I REALLY don't like 'em!! Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted July 17, 2015 Super User Posted July 17, 2015 We don't have hardly any pike, but as far as bass tournaments go, I could go a week without catching a non-bass but as soon as I start fishing in a tournament I can load the boat with them. My mom caught a walleye fishing a drop shot in a 3 hour "mothers day tournament" that my high school club had there. I have spent at least 3 days targeting walleye at that lake, I have caught ONE. Last_Cast Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I catch pike all the d**n time. Fun fish. Hate their teeth. It does get annoying after a while, especially if trying for bass, buy hey its better than a sunny lol Quote
Scorchx1245 Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Jaw spreader....the pike and pickerel annoy me, flipping grass on a day I lose probably 1 to 2 jigs a day swimming them or flipping..... Quote
