Basspro3106 Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 As I was spooling up my reels for a upcoming tournament I started to notice kinks and dings in the line I stopped half way and returned it to gander mt. guy working behind the counter said quality control has been slacking on this particular brand. I've had good look with Berkeley, hopefully this was just a bad batch. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted July 14, 2015 Super User Posted July 14, 2015 If the label says Vanish, its all a bad batch. 16 1 Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted July 14, 2015 Super User Posted July 14, 2015 Buy Berkley 100% Pro Grade. Much better product. Vanish is about the only Berkley product I've heard bad things about. I love Berkley products. 1 Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted July 14, 2015 Super User Posted July 14, 2015 Vanish, steer clear. it is more problem than its worth. Quote
k3bass Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 If the label says Vanish, its all a bad batch. You beat me to it. Lol Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted July 15, 2015 Super User Posted July 15, 2015 You beat me to it. Lol Truth in advertising. Fish Vanish, lures Vanish, tourney checks Vanish! 2 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 15, 2015 Super User Posted July 15, 2015 Vanish=bad line...... Worst line I have ever used. Quote
Super User CWB Posted July 15, 2015 Super User Posted July 15, 2015 Anyone ever get a good batch? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 15, 2015 Global Moderator Posted July 15, 2015 I had 1 good trip with Vanish for walleye. Tried it for bass and like everyone has said, my baits vanished, my fish vanished, and my chance to cash a check vanished. Quote
d-camarena Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Lol same thing here, i bought some 12lb vanish. Broke on every hookset Quote
hawkoath Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I don't know what going on with the QC/QA in the factory that produces Vanish, but seriously steer clear of it. I've lost a lot of lures, hooks, etc... and fish using that stuff before I read on various forums how horrible it is. Even if you get it for free it's not worth it for the amount of gear (i.e. money) you lose, the sheer headache, and the heartache. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 15, 2015 Super User Posted July 15, 2015 If the label says Vanish, its all a bad batch. A lot of guys have had bad experiences with this line. Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Lol same thing here, i bought some 12lb vanish. Broke on every hookset X2 Quote
EmersonFish Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I usually don't pile on when people are bashing a product, because often I think its based on individual experiences that are not reflective of the actual quality, but between my experience with the line, and Berkley Vanish reputation and apparent track record, I'd say just assume it's not an exceptionally bad batch, and look for another line. I know the price is right, and when you peel a few inches off the spool it looks and feels nice in your hand, but much like Elvis fans, 50,000,000 fisherman can't be wrong. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted July 15, 2015 Super User Posted July 15, 2015 Back in the day, I bought a service spool of 14 lb Vanish and it took me a couple of years to use it all up. I found that I didn't have any more line issues with it than I did with any other line I was familiar with at that time. Times change - I started using Seaguar InvisX and Abrazx and I think those are better lines than Vanish was. Never tried the other version of Berkley Fluorocarbon. Quote
desmobob Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 I have a spool of 4 lb. test Vanish in my spool box that I've been using for leaders for two seasons now with no complaints. After everything I've read about Vanish, I feel almost as though I've hit the lottery! I'll pass on it in the future. Tight lines, Bob Quote
Trey Harpel Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Stuff is terrible as there are other lines out there that destroy Vanish.. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted July 16, 2015 Super User Posted July 16, 2015 I had 1 good trip with Vanish for walleye. Bingo... Vanish has been around for awhile and it's been written repeatedly on the web that its shock strength is less than desirable for common bass fishing techniques. Walleye fishermen have been successful with Vanish... hey, here's a thought... why not stop buying it for bass fishing. oe 2 Quote

Super User senile1 Posted July 16, 2015 Super User Posted July 16, 2015 Every now and then we have a thread about Vanish and there are a number of anglers who continue to state the same complaints about the line. I tried Vanish 9 - 10 years ago and my experience wasn't good either. What surprises me is that after all this time the product still appears to have the same problems with a significant percentage of anglers. Per the Berkley site in the description tab for Vanish, it has been on the market for 15 years. There must be some good spools of the line or it wouldn't have been on the market for this long, but the number of complaints I see in multiple forums has convinced me to not buy it. Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 16, 2015 Super User Posted July 16, 2015 Stay away from the "cheap" stuff, you can find affordable products if you bother to ask before you purchase, XPS FC line is a very good "inexpensive" FC line. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted July 16, 2015 Super User Posted July 16, 2015 I'm definitely a fan of Berkley fishing line. In fact, it's basically all I run anymore. I've tried other lines, but I keep coming back. That being said, I run nothing with Vanish. I would also not recommend it to anyone. If you want to use some FC, go with the 100% Professional Grade. Not a whole lot more money, but it's SO much better! Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted July 16, 2015 Super User Posted July 16, 2015 Lost some decent fish to break offs. Just threw the line away. Quote

The same can be said for the original Vicious Fluorocarbon, I guess. It's been around for a long time and is still carried in big box stores, even though it has a pretty terrible reputation in bass fishing circles. Quote
