Better kill off all the Brown Trout as they aren't native to North America. Don’t want to see that. I’m all for Wild Trout. Stocked and native also. To each his own, I don’t fish for them (carp) but they seem to have a decent following. Over the years I caught a few (were huge) while river Smallie fishing. Coincidentally on a gold w/black back Rapala and Gold w/black back Rat-L-Trap. Sort of resembles a carp. A couple on tubes and grubs also. When I was a kid a Jewish doctor who lived close by use to pay us for carp. But he wanted them alive. We delivered them to him in an old handled styled galvanized wash tub. We didn’t fish the big river than. We caught them in the creek. The deep holes seemed to hold the carp. Back in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Made a few $$$ bucks doing something you like. But we just had to keep them alive. I believe he use to put them in the bathtub until he took care of them one way or another. We use to laugh our butts off back then. 1 Quote

I don't fish for them either, and I've never caught one. I don't know a single person who specifically targets them here in the land of 10,000 lakes. Even with a closed season for most of our game fish, people don't seek out carp. And I know a pretty significant number of anglers who fish here through a network of friends and distant relatives. I will say that on rare occasion I see a boat being trailered on the road that is a specific bow-fishing rig and I know they are targeting carp with their archery equipment. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted May 13, 2021 Super User Posted May 13, 2021 Common carp are not native to the USA like many of the exotic fish we have. Largemouth bass are introduced throughout the world since they are sport fish millions of people enjoy catching and they are much more fun to catch than carp. With that said you will never get rid of carp and many other exotic species since they reproduce quickly and are thriving. Quote

And there's a number of countries where largemouths were introduced that are now trying to eradicate them because they're negatively affecting native species of fish. http://www.kenschultz.com/blog-reel-speak/the-invasive-largemouth-bass Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted May 13, 2021 Super User Posted May 13, 2021 I have researched how largemouth bass effect native fish in other countries and why some countries want to remove these fish. Those places will most likely not be able to get rid of largemouth bass since they reproduce faster than people can get rid of them. Might as well enjoy catching exotic species since they are unique and fun to catch. Quote

Any legal method may be used to take them, all carp will be destroyed after the weigh-in. 2 1 Quote

Outside the US carp are the most popular gamefish and it's on the rise here in the states as well. I just throw them back unless I need cut bait for cats. I see enough dead bowfin and gar on the banks around here and I refuse to be like that. 1 Quote

I have caught several carp over 40 inches, they are a fun fish to catch but I much rather fish for bass. People that kill native bowfin and gar are googans to say the least. 1 Quote
Musky.Chaser Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 I consider them to be sport fish at this point, and I love catching em! I believe they have become naturalized in the USA, my local river supports carp as well as less hardy species like trout and smallmouth. The river is never overly muddy unless we receive extreme rainstorms. They'll always go back unless then they get gut hooked. 1 Quote
