Super User WRB Posted July 12, 2015 Super User Posted July 12, 2015 Since the "Teener" thread was locked, I wanted to commit on the video that Jon G, posted in that thread. I don't know Matt Allen, he is a Northern California angler that runs a guide service. The MC made a few commits about SoCal trophy anglers that didn't set well with me, that aside Matt's presentation was excellent, informative and any angler looking to catch big bass should watch this video carefully. Super User HoosierHawgs Posted July 12, 2015 Super User Posted July 12, 2015 I am a fan of Matt Allen's work. I will have to take a look into that specific video, as I had not seen it before, especially if you do recommend it. Quote
Jon G Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 I'm a big Matt Allen fan. I find a lot of his information outstanding. He has a website and a youtube channel dedicated to helping people catch more bigger fish. Some of the stuff I throw a lot of now I've found through him. The one thing I just can't seem to do that he is a big advocate of is using all braid. I use it on a few set ups but I just can't seem to like it as much as FC. I know he throws swimbaits like 8" hudds on 80lb braid with a leader. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 12, 2015 Author Super User Posted July 12, 2015 You take away information that fits you and your style of bass fishing in regards to equipment. It's the big bass behavior gems that are hard to find. Bill Murphy for example has some unique presentations and techniques, however it's his big bass behavior knowledge that makes his book worthwhile reading. Murphy was a very tight lipped angler for decades, sharing nothing, his book was a complete surprise to me that he shared so much. Matt tends to get a caught up with self promotion, however he has a guide business, so keep that in perspective. The subject video is post #54 in the "teener" thread. This video is long and covers soft swimbaits, glide baits, swim jigs, craw jigs, pork ring jigs, night spinner baits...lots of good topics. Tom 4 Quote
joeblowwwww Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 ... I agree Matt Allen is a bit of a self promoter. but I find his articles and videos on swimbaits/glidebaits some of the best out there. I saw him speak 1 time and I have to say I learned a lot from him. Tom....... I bet you would be more interesting to hear speak. if you ever do let us know. Quote
Grantman83 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Went I went to california, I was lucky enough to have Matt Allen as a guide for a full day on clear lake and he was awesome.. I can say unequivocal that everything you see on his videos is how he fishes and fished. All the tips and techniques which we covered on my trip are in this videos ESPECIALLY the swimbait tips. All his stuff is braid with leaders even cranking (which he does with high speed reels lol). He may be a self promoter, but he does have his guide business so I understand and I feel he has earned as it as he works his tail off to know the areas like he does. Quote
g man Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Matt Allen is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He does as much to help others as anyone I have ever met in the fishing world. Like everyone here already said that has met him he is awesome indeed. As far as the 'locked' thread mentioned above I have not read it nor do I care to from the sounds of it! LOL..just saying....by the way nice fish in your avatar Tom and I don't blame you for being upset about anything negative being said about Southern California sticks! I have fished Southern California and I have the utmost respect for you guys g man 2 Quote
