I have a 6'6" Medium Heavy Baitcaster that need a new reel. The rod isn't all that special. The whole combo costed around 80 dollars but I got it on sale for 30. Anyway the rod is a cabelas pro guide im6 rod. I think it's decent but the reel is really struggling. I want a new one around the 40-60 dollar range and a 6:3 ratio. I need recommendations. I use this rod for everything bass fishing besides finesse so I spool it with mono. I need advice for a good low stretch mono that I can also fish topwaters with. Also should I use 12 or 15 pound test?

The second rod is a medium light Abu Garcia vengeance spinning rod with the cardinal sx 20 reel spooled with 8 pound test. This one is mainly for finnesse so mostly drop shot and wacky rig. It feels very much like a medium rather than a medium light which is why it doesn't have 6 pound test. I use stren mono but I thought about fluoro but I'm not quite I want to use that either so I was wondering about something like the p Line cx premium. Any thoughts? Please answer my question about the Baitcaster though I really want to know about that.

Daiwa Lexas are being clearanced for around 70 bones in Big Box Stores. As for line, try 12 or 14 lb Trilene XT.

The cheaper reels work well, they are just not quite as well built and durable. They have plastic bodies, and cheaper made parts that wear faster. In general the more bearings the smoother the reel will be, but don't count on smooth bearings per say.

Having said that it sounds like this reel is going to be your workhorse, and get used a bunch. The higher quality reels will last you years, and could save you money over time. If you have to stick to a budget, look for the best deal you can get! Hoosier pointed out a nice sale that could be worth going over budget for.

Might even get the best deal picking up a used reel.

Thanks so much guys. Before I was using 12 pound trilene xt so I'll just stick with that or possibly do some research of my own. I will definitely look into that sale. More help is appreciated though!

Edit: I see it is 200 dollars. Do you know what the price will be after sale and when the sale is? I would prefer to go under 100.

I looked into the daiwa lexa reels. What size should I get? I'm guessing the 300H. It says for H/MH. I've never picked out a Baitcast reel. My first was picked out as a combo. I'll also eventually get a new rod I just didn't want to spend all my money at one time. It will most likely be another 6 6 MH but hopefully more sensitive. I have a friend who let me use one of his 300+ dollar combos so after that my Baitcaster felt cheap (even though it is).

Also has anyone tried the p line cx premium?

Go for the 100. Check Gander Mt if you have one near you or their website or Tackle Warehouse. Your rod sounds like a decent introductory rod. I have not tried any P Line so I'm not much help there.

You want an aluminum reel. Trust me on this one. (I'm sure someone will come along and say how they punch with Black Maxes though.)

Citicas, Pro qualifers, Lexas.

Lews speed spools are nice....I lovey orra winch but that's my crabkbait reel

Only. Maybe a Abu Garcia pro max? Read reviews look at their hardware and remember do use reviews Ailey bc there's always going to be someone who hates it and had a terrible time with it. And truly think about how your going to be fishing bc it only took 4 months of heavy Matt punching and frog fishing to destroy my Abu Garcia pro max reel. Just sayin lol. Just do some research. Find what you like and we can help narrow it down

I just picked up 2 Revo S on amazon for $83 a piece.  could be an option to consider since its only $13 more than the Pro Max

Did a tiny bit of research and it seems that the BPS Pro Qualifier, the Lews Speed Spool LFS Series, and Abu Garcia Orra SX are all great reels for under 100 dollars. Anyone tried or heard of or have opinions about these reels?

Seaguar Senshi would be my suggestion for the line

And would that be for the spinning reel or the Baitcaster? Thanks.

Love my Lew's. Can't speak to the others, but the Lew's would be the one I would buy. PQ gets tons of positive reviews around here though.

I have a Lew's ss lfs and a Daiwa Lexa. They are both really nice, but I think I prefer the Lew's. It is lighter and more comfortable in my hand.

For both. The really good thing about it is it's longevity, thinness, overall reliability and the line doesn't have much stretch at all. Plus out of the water it has a really nice laser blue tint which makes it really attractive.

Yeah I thought the Lews seemed the best on paper as well. It's the smoothest and the lightest of the 3.

Awesome. I'm thinking I'll try the 15 lb test for my Baitcaster.
